The Annual statement outlining the Community Charge for residents in the City of Wakefield, came through the letter box this morning. I started buying my house in 1987 and it was valued at circa £33k. In 1991 when the new system came in, it was rated as Category C which saw it fall within the band £52,001 to £68,000. The cost from last year has gone up by 5.2% which Wakefield say is the lowest increase in West Yorkshire. They are claiming that since this Government came to power, they've stripped close on £171 million from the annual payments that Wakefield receive from Central coffers. My monthly payments will rise to £138 per calendar month from May 18 to Jan 19, after a first payment of £141.98 in April 18. Wife's Dad lives in a bungalow in Hatfield ( Donny). Reckons his has gone to circa £150 pcm, although I suspect he is in Category D ( £68,000-£ 88,000 rated at 1/4/91). Anybody willing to do a comparisons to see how much their charges have increased please.? Thanks in advance.
Cat A in Headingley/Burley area. Next year's Council Tax is £107.70 first month then £104.00 for 9 months. No idea what the house is worth as we rent. Increases by breakdown: Leeds City Counctil 3% Adult Social Care Precept 2% Police & Crime Commissioner West Yorks 7.9% West Yorks Fire & Rescue Authority 3%
Stratford on avon, band G, £3077.09 for this year. Living in a small village seems a lot just to have your bins emptied. Increase of 5.6%
Warwickshire County Council adult social care plus 2.0%£124.65.do I qualify? The police and crime commissioner £339.97plus 6.3%.who and what the Fook do they do.?
Sheffield Band D: £1,796.17 which works out at £180 a month (£176.17 in month 1). Council tax up 2.99% Police & Crime Commissioner charge up 7.99% (Hillsborough legal fees maybe?) Fire service charge up 2.97% We're also charged £41.08 a year for our Parish Council which I don't begrudge. Most of the money goes on one guy and a lawnmower to look after the park....
3 things jangle my chains. Not calling it a tax Paying anything whatsoever for police and crime commissioner over historically the faultiest force in the land. Trusting these self serving dolls heads in the town hall to effectively use our tax money. They’re as efficient as filling sandbags up with a pitchfork.
Band A single occupancy in Tarn up from £66 a month to £69. But rent for the OAP bungalow has dropped £2 and some odd pence.
Its called council tax in Farnham My Band E charge is £2306.97 up 5.5% according to the letter I got a few days ago Though I am a bit puzzled - clearly I am no good at maths Surrey County Council - increase by 3% to 1599.77 Adult social care - increase by 3% to £124.14 Waverley Boro Council - Increase 3% to £216.38 Police - increase by 5.3% to £289.14 Farnham town council increse by 2.6% to £76.54 so how can all the blocks have increases of around 3% ( except one smaller block at 5.3%) give a total increase of 5.5% something isn't right somewhere - probably need to look at last years to see what they have lied about increase wise
Band D in Wakefield area (South Elmsall). £1745.57, up 4.6% Wakefield Council £1246.49 up 3% Local town council £188.59 up 0.1% Social Care £84.82 up 2% Fire Auth £62.72 up 3% WY Police £162.95 up 7.9% £175 a month.
Looks like everyone is suddenly paying a lot more for their Police & Crime Commissioners. Any idea why?
Less funding from government? I know someone quite senior in Sussex police and they are fighting budget cuts which doesn’t stack up with large rises in council tax
Thanks for the info everyone. Apologies for the title. I have checked, it is called Council Tax on City of Wakefields statement. Old habits die hard. I'm sure it was once called Community Charge. Don't know how much more the Police, Fire and Local Authorities can cut back. In Wakefield, Fire and Police Stations and Libraries are being shut, Youth Services are closing Youth Clubs and Youth Workers are having to "outreach" by working with young people on the streets.
Central government has given police officers a pay rise but refused to give police forces ANY money to pay for it. Considering there around 2500 full time equivalent officers and the absolute bar minimum pay rise they've been given by central government is £400 a year (for a new officer in their first year) that's a minimum of £1m that hey have got to find out of nowhere to cover Theresa may's decision. In reality we have 5 chief officers (£98538) (£492690) 9 chief superintendents (£81156) (£730404) 15 superintendents (£65478) (£982170) 38 chief inspectors (£54432) (£2068416) 101 inspectors (£49176) (£4966776) 345 sergeants (£39693) (£13694085) 1961 constables (£19971) (£39163131) At the last count (figures show the MINIMUM pay), second bracket shows total minimum pay. That's a total minimum wage bill of £62,097,672 even if every single police officer was a brand new starter with no experience on the minimum pay which of course is not the case so the bill is much higher). I make the absolute minimum a £1.3m pay rise she's handed out plus after completion of basic training each officer gets an extra £4k. In real terms the pay RISE is estimated to cost syp between £3m and £4m a year. Easy for someone in London to spend someone else's money
