Great article there mate. In fact Marlon has told me more regarding the blast. He is quite knowledgable on the subject. Once he took me to the miners head office in Barnsley to view banners and read articles regarding your mining past history.
You have a very proud history but its demise is all very sad.

Just read the article missen - people always go on (rightly) about how the services put their lives on the line, but hardly anyone outwith of mining areas understand how dangerous coal mining is - or rather was - not to mention how poor the pay was.

Coincidentally, "Memories of Barnsley" have an article on the subject in this quarters issue.

One of the most heartbreaking and tbh they're all heartbreaking I have read up on was the husker colliery disaster in Silkstone .
Involving small children and in the aftermath there was a motion in parliament to ban children under 10 from Going down mines. which the high ranking Tory MP Robert Peele tried to block.
