Bet there would be a lot less incidents if it were easier to get a taxi in barnsley on a friday/saturday. If you don’t pre book days in advance yer knackered or a long stint in the rank which again is not a great experience. Not been in town or needed a taxi lately - is it still as bad as it was? Always been awful. Other places dont seem to be as bad.
I dont think that's really the case. Everyone I ever go out with manages to get a taxi/lift home because they woukd not dream of drink driving. Same with litter, stays in a pocket until I get home or pass one, I dont blame lack of bins.
No excuses... if you drink, you don’t drive. Simple! I am the same with litter. It boils my pizz when I see someone chucking rubbish, usually fast food wrappers out of a car window. Take it home or to the nearest bin.
Much as I am strongly against drink driving I cant agree with you on this The idea that the police can just stop you with no grounds to check you are not committing an offence doesnt sit well with me. In any case it takes long enough to get out of the car park as it is - the additional delays by randomly stopping card for a breath test isnt really justifiable Also wouldn't they need to wait until they leave the car park - I am not certain but I don't think it is an offence to drink drive in a private car park
This site is a wild ride- testing drivers for drink driving when leaving an establishment that serves alcohol is the same as nazi Germany. What chapter in mein kampf was that again?
Thing is drink driving is not a freedom, our nation is so far from being a " China" type of country. We are probably the most tolerant country and have the most criminal friendly courts in the world.
Where to start with that one. Suggest you read up about our courts and legal system before you make that sort of claim- oh and I dont mean read up in the Mail or Sun - A good start would be this book - The Secret Barrister: Stories of the Law and How It's Broken
Fantastic book, that. Available on Audible if you prefer audiobooks too. Listened to it over a couple of long plane journeys a few months back.
People still read newspapers?? Good god man I haven't read paper news since we had glass milk bottles, btw I worked in the courts for 3 years, both magistrate and crown our judicial system is a joke
The police already do that don't they? Every Christmas they have a large operation on the dual carriageway at cottonwood and stop every vehicle pulling random ones in for breath tests. Also the carpark has public access so it would be illegal even though it's technically private land
I've seen today that SYP were stopping cars completely at random on penistone road this morning and doing random breath tests. 53 were tested and nobody was over the limit. Thought you'd be interested in that. Did a bit of checking and discovered that the police have a right to randomly stop any vehicle and demand to see your driving licence and other documents but they cannot demand you do a random breath test. They can only do that if they think you’ve been drinking you’ve committed a traffic offence you’ve been involved in a road traffic accident The grey area here is that if they ask you to do one and you say no would they then be able to say that your refusal makes them think you've been drinking which would then mean they can force you? Hmm It's also quite interesting that of the 53 people they stopped only 3 had ANY alcohol in their system. I would have thought it would have been much higher
I can’t think of any situation where if I was stopped I would refuse to do a breath test, unless I’d been drinking. Perhaps I’m in the minority though.
Good news that people are being sensible. I thought you had 7 days to present your licence to the police , I never have mine on me
what's the penalty for refusing to do the breathalyser test and does it need a blood sample to ascertain if a driver has taken drugs. How does the system differentiate between drugs that are take legally or illegally - some people 'legally' prescribed cannabis.
