Since so many of this forum wax lyrical about this pub... Its only using around 30% of its capacity and its towing. Its hardly hit capacity once reopening and its looking like they might be reducing staff hours. When you are going out for your half price plate of meat, make a pre or post meal detour and have a jar. ..
It’s a sad shame, but I think lockdown has changed people’s habits. I went to The Ash, at Wombwell, yesterday afternoon, for a couple in the beer garden, as the weather was nice. Walked down hoping to be able to get a table outside, to find only 5 or 6 folk there and nobody inside. Then went to my newly refurbished local, Ardsley Club, last night. Less than 10 in!!! I can only assume that families have saved for a year for a foreign holiday, that they now can’t (or probably daren’t) have, so have ploughed the money into making their gardens nice, build an outside bar etc and are choosing to drink at home now, instead of the pub. Sad shame to see pubs struggling though. Sooner this all blows over, the better.
Aah this is interesting, I’ve deliberately not gone because I assumed it would be at capacity! Will be changing this ASAP
I've not been in a pub since March, assumed it wouldn't be the same with social distancing. Planned to stay away while ever we have social distancing, same for restaurants, shopping (apart from essentials) and most other indoor spaces. Social distancing for 8 hours a day at work with a visor on is enough for me.
Not been my experience since being back allowed in the pubs. Pretty normalish really unless you go in town. Restricted capacity has been the only issue there with having to have a bit of a walk around.
The geezer that runs this now used to run my local. Decent bloke he is too. Oh, and you can take the piss out of his hand, he doesn't mind haha
I work in a pub and it's been ok here in Selby... My sister has just taken the lease on so we are running it between us best we can. Luckily we have a huge beer garden and our regulars have mostly come back accompanied with new people who have felt comfortable in the beer garden and able to distance well.
Is that passageway still open between No7 and what used to be Brownes ? Must be 10 years since I last had a night in Barnsley. Not been in a pub since lock down, been fancying a pint after a walk in the beach at Cayton but the pub on our site is always full of the Jeremy Kyle candidates off the site opposite who’ve obviously never heard of social distancing, frequent handwashing or not swearing at your kids.
Know the exact type of people you mean. The ones that want to "take our country back" and have a dislike of them funny-looking foreigners. Oh...
Normally do go into town or a day somewhere. If out with the lads like a few games of pool/darts. If out before the football tend to bump into loads of people we know and have a pint. If it's just sitting at a table we can do that at home. I'm glad people are going out to support these businesses. Personally I can't justify spending money on something I don't think I'll enjoy.
Its slowly getting busier but there seems to be this unwritten rule about early closing times which is leading to carnage. Apart from Chambers and the Commercial I think everywhere inside a mile of the town halls open and doing a decent trade all things considered. No7s struggling as its opening hours are a bit rigid and missing the usual brown ale warriors who keep it ticking over. Youll struggle saturdays to get a drink in Tin oyle or Typsy cow for example both inside and out are heaving upto about 8pm I think when the rugrats are back in school and people realise that we arent all going to die more people will turn out. Everyone on here likes a pint with the lads, a few with the better halves, something nice to eat or a mixture of both. This half price food venture is good. Its keeping 1000s in a job. Thing is we all need to get out and spend a bit where we can. That coffee you buy on a morning before work... its a small cog in the big wheel
I find it strange that half the people on here think it's fantastic that the restaurants are overflowing but if you go for a pint you're going to kill half the world
I've been back in - the strange new world of table service in No7. It was a Thursday evening before the eat out scheme and town was ticking over but not busy. My only constructive observation was we were with a friend who doesn't really drink the hand pulled stuff and she struggled to pick her tipple. A can menu would be the perfect thing. That first proper pint or Blonde since March was like mana from heaven.
I hate the No. 7 for that reason. A few of my friends back home are obsessed with it but I can never find anything I want to drink.
Not much to be fair but I’d rather have a lager that everyone on here would call fizzy piss or a cocktail. Failing that I’ll have something like a Barcardi and diet coke or Schnapps and lemonade.
When we go out before the game the 3 or 4 of us who don't drink real ale just skip it while everyone else goes in.
