On what basis do the Sheffield clubs see themselves as 'big' or 'massive'

Baffling. Since 1935 they have one League Cup between them, with the Blades not winning anything since 10 years before that.

If they're basing it on achievements before WW2 then Huddersfield are huge and they're getting pretty desperate really, plus a lot of them say that our FA cup victory doesn't count.

Attendances? Well firstly they are from the third largest city in the UK so it's not remotely impressive nor does it really count for anything. Besides, truly big clubs have a reach beyond our shores.

    Can't think of anything else.

They may be bigger clubs than us. Hardly difficult with the population, size of places etc. but they aren't really any better than us and they are a trillion miles away from true massive clubs like R.Madrid, Man Utd!

Big clubs certainly don't dither about in the 2nd & 3rd tiers for very long periods!!!

Sheffield is many things, but it isn't the 3rd largest city in the UK. I think 5th or 6th is about right (London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Leeds depending on how you count them)

Why let it bother you? They get decent gates, so let them believe it & enjoy it. It matters not one jot how 'big' a club is or how many fans they have if they're not achieving much on the pitch. While ever we reside in the same division or higher and enjoy the odd victory over them, I'm more than happy being smaller than them. Just a small town in Sheffield. Aye, right.

It is really though. It's ludicrously underbounded, seeing as the Wirral doesn't count. It should really go something like this, I reckon (true conurbation size rather than council area) :

    London

    Birmingham, Manchester

    Leeds, Liverpool

    Sheffield, Newcastle, a few others.

They have a really lush pitch at Bramall Lane. Mind you it should be good, the amount of
sh*te that's been on it in recent years.!
