I was told last week we had put a bid in for Derby Countys Luke Thomas.2m +
2m plus what? Barry's biscuit tin?
Is that the lad on loan at Coventry?
He’s definitely got the right credentials.
Wouldn't be a surprise. I would expect our record transfer fee to be broken this summer as a statement of intent.
I would be surprised if we'd made offers for anyone at this stage to be honest. The
usual modus operandi at any Club, is that once you know which league you are
going to be in, the Board meets and invites the Coach/ Manager to give his
view on the players he wishes to retain, together with ideas/research/video clips of
any players on his wish list. In our case, we are an exception to that rule as the spreadsheet plays
it's part in our process. Having heard the discussions, the Finance guru ( Robert Zuc) will then go away
and at a subsequent meeting, present his proposed budget that hopefully matches everyone's
requirements. My hope is that that process can start very soon, so we are not once again at the back
of the queue regarding attracting any new players. I might be wide of the mark, but I honestly feel that
the Board were really miffed that we were relegated last season and won't want to repeat that folly.
Hopefully, they are in it for the long term and will make prudent decisions to ensure that at the very least,
we establish a perennial place in the Championship, but this time round, ensure that we are challenging
at the right end of the league table.
I'm sure somebody in the know said that the club already had two sets of plans drawn up, which seems very sensible. I'd expect us to move quite quickly.
Then again, I always expect that. still looking forward to staying up late on deadline day!
I think you could well be right Sestren. We might have targets, but until we know what league we
are in, I would honestly be surprised if we've made firm offers to any new players just yet, plus the fact
that Luke Thomas might want to hear from Frank Lampard as to whether he features in his future plans.
By the looks of it, Lampard took over in May 2018 and in the August, Thomas signed a new four year contract.
At the age of 20, it looks as though he been loaned to Coventry simply to ensure he gets some game time, as part of
his ongoing development.
I have a friend who Supports Coventry, he says Barnsley wouldn't be able to afford him as he is worth 2 million plus... and more chance of them signing him.
We are a small club with a small attendance apparently
A bit rich coming from a fan of a club which is basically homeless!
The club will have been looking at options if we got up.
They will have been seeing what and who will be wanted and also who will be let go.
It is certain they will have also decided what we are doing if we did not get up
Stop talking to him M8. There's a saying " send him to ? " but I can't think where it is.
First priority would be to put Stendel and some of the key squad players on to DECENT Championship salaries for at least two years - best use of the money would be to offer new and enhanced contracts to Davies, Pinnock, Lindsay, Mowatt, Brown, Woodrow, Moore - amongst others. We can't expect them to want to stay on League One wages, but some of those will be convinced that we are on to something 'special' (as Flicker said) here. We can't make the same mistake as last time we went up. Who will come in? I would say that the likes of Luke Thomas are the right sort of players to be looking at - promising youngsters at Championship, or maybe Premiership clubs and, yes, we are going to have to invest seven figures if we are to enhance the current quality, whilst keeping the team spirit.
Sorry MT. My reply above was to TR92's post. How did you celebrate last night incidentally.?
I think Mr Conway would want a new dynamic CEO to have hit the ground running before anything else is done.
Apart from giving DS a lucrative 5 year deal imho.
But at least we own the deeds to our house even though one on the walls needs rebuilding
( West stand but that's an on going discussion as per other posts).
They got Chaplin!
Mowetts already signed a new deal I would imagine there's a Championship clause in it.
