yeah heard it is costly. Might be one to do next year as still need to pay my solicitor fees this year plus furniture etc..... stuff is too expensive these days
Berlin has some great markets - particularly the one on Kurfustendamm near the Kaiser Wilheim church. Got some other great stuff to do.
Only been to Berlin once and not seen the Christmas Markets there, though i've not seen them feature in the lists often shown each year ahead of chrimbo market season. The Germanic countries certainly know how to do Christmas though, puts our efforts at Christmas markets to absolute shame. Have a dual visit to Hamburg and Lubeck this winter, and I fully suspect we'll try and squeeze one in late November too. Did Wroclaw and Copenhagen last December. Much prefer the lesser known places that just feel more authentic.
We go to Berlin every Christmas and the markets are fantastic. Spread all across the city. Used to be a giant funfair too but they are now building where it was....not sure if it's been relocated.
Sounds very similar to Vienna. That had some very good markets amid the very grand buildings across the city (not to mention giant Linzer biscuits, oh how I miss thee giant linzer biscuit!). But Cologne was incredible with multiple markets across an otherwise dreary dark city.
Vienna is an absolutely fantastic city for a short break. Walkable with beautiful buildings, art, culture , bars...
Had a great long weekend last winter in Brno an hour or so train journey from Prague much more picturesque and very cheap didn’t realise they don’t use euros Czech kronor
Tbilisi is the place to visit for good value for money. Beer is cheap and wine even cheaper, food great and also cheap. Lots to see for a long weekend too. Went to Bratislava for the day when we were in Vienna a few years ago. They had a nice little Christmas market and the eating and drinking was good. Very walkable place. Vienna’s multiple Christmas markets were amazing though. Not cheap though. Used to live in Berlin (‘99-‘04) and that has everything...went back at Christmas a few years back. Markets were great and managed to get in a Hertha game
Been to Bratislava several times. It’s a very historic place. Until about a hundred years ago In was called Pressburg and was the place where many Austro-Hungarian monarchs were crowned. The castle is great and there’s a very interesting city museum. Some excellent pubs and restaurants. Deffo recommend the train for a day in Vienna as well.
