No different to footballers being fined for making political gestures. Anelka fined £80K for the ‘quenelle’ (anti-establishment) gesture a few years back.
wasn't the fine because it was deemed anti-semitic, rather than anti-establishment? does that really compare with black people peacefully protesting against police brutality?
The first amendment applies to the Government, not private companies or individuals. You may have seen the story about Donald Trump being unable to block people on Twitter, that is because he has stated he uses his Twitter account to announce Government policy, and so it applies to him.
It would be amusing if teams decide to stay in the dressing room en masse during the playing of the anthem. Who the hell plays a national anthem before a sporting event anyway? It's redolent of national insecurity if you ask me.
As I read in a tweet earlier today "William LeGateVerified account @williamlegate17h17 hours ago Mandatory patriotism isn't patriotism, it's fascism." As for those who say sport and politics dont match - Who insists the Anthem is played before every game?
Very probably mate. They have a very serious need to prove they're the best to themselves because they're really not sure they are. In my view anyway.
You also mentioned legal action. There are no grounds for legal action as the first amendment does not apply.
In such a litigious society I'm quite sure that the lawyers of these highly paid stars will not have to dig too deep to compile an action based on discrimination or restraint of trade or the imposition of non-contractual stipulations. Whether they would succeed is another matter altogether. Although I hope they do - as a stand against Trump's xenophobic tendencies.
More free than this country where 9 people are arrested every day for making mean comments on social media and it's a hate crime to criticise certain religions.
It isn't a crime to criticise certain religions. There is a difference between informed criticism based on fact and downright hate speech.
It reminds me of this https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...t-brom-remembrance-poppy-appeal-a8037391.html
The law is the same for ALL religions and you can be rightly arrested or charged if you are a hate filled person who abuses someone regardless of colour or religion. Only a horrible person would deny that
