Our structure of signing unproven players......

.....in the championship, do you think we might look to add maybe 1 or 2 old heads to the squad or keep on with the young unproven lads??

A recall a few seasons ago when we drafted Kevin Long in and he brought Alfie Mawson on a treat who in turn also turned Mark Roberts into a good player too

 

Personally mate I'd definitely bring a couple of older heads in to try and steady the ship and bring the younger lads on

 

I'd advocate that, yes. I've only seen them once (tonight), but that looked like a team that really needs some leadership.

 

With the amount and also the quality of players we've lost a think bringing in a few experienced players would do the young lads the world of good but we've had this before when going for experience and they've turned out absolutely ***** so it's a hard one to call.....plus our wage structure would most likely play a part in which old head we can bring in too

 

None of you lot are allowed to suggest this about some older more experienced players.
I suggested it and Young Nudger didnt like it.

Hammill was not MOM tonight. No sane person would suggest it. He did cross for Bradshaw's second goal. He also got caught in possession time after time and never tore a hole in their defence despite trying.
He never has played with a touch of experience about him. He still tries fancy stuff which must have the gaffer tearing his hair out at times. A mentor? Nope.

 

I put a question mark to invite opinion. Star seemed to think he was our star man, but we all see
things differently.

You need a few experienced players in there, and we're lacking 1 or 2

I think it comes down to simple common sense Donny, a few older heads here and there certainly can't hurt can they ?.
And by older heads I think players near the 30 age mark certainly wouldn't be too old if it came to a 1 or 2 season deal.
There are no guarantees of course and I can't name any names, but I wish we as a club would look at the options instead of flatly refusing to look at anybody who is over 25.

 

We might be better looking for a couple of loan options for the experienced players. Some of the Premier League clubs might have players coming back from injury (like James) or surplus to requirements who we can use to give us that experience. Be cheaper than buying - especially for someone coming back to fitness. Don't ask me who fits that bill though!

 

Yes Im the same Scoff, I keep offering suggestions but I don't have any answers, so don't ask me either. lol

 

We need leaders, not necessarily 'experience'.

As much as I like Angus, I don't see him as a captain. He's usually the first one to drop his head after we concede.

 

How about Hammill as captain, that might be the 'incentive' hes been looking for. Other than that Im not sure who we have in a squad full of kids who stand out as leaders, not at the moment anyway.

 

Do you think his shortcomings without Roberts might be showing through. ? He was unfortunate to be caught off guard for one
of the goals at Bristol and again for one last night, as well as the ill advised tackle for their penalty as well.

He might improve if we get Lindsay along side him or as Fizzy Tyke 2 has suggested could we look at giving Pearson a run out there.? Trouble is, we haven't got the time to be experimenting.!

Interested to know who you would suggest we could realistically afford to sign that would improve us?

I totally understand your point and do think some experience especially at the back could improve us but cannot think of any good experienced players that we could afford to bring in on our wage budget. That is why we have to sign these young unproven players from lower leagues.

 

If truth be known I'd be struggling to throw names into the hat, with how this past few months transfers have gone the player that may have been within our financial sights back in may is probably over priced for us now.

The club have been guilty of there own success this past few years with how we've nurtured lower league players into lads that could well feature in the premiership next season.

Stopping up this season for me would second the achievement of promotion to the premiership, the league this season looks to be the hardest tier 2 league that's ever been seen.
