If wicket keeper had thrown ball up to other stumps they could have had a double run out Can’t believe Indian batsman thought it had gone for four
I don't think you can have a double run out. I believe once the stumps are broken the ball is considered 'dead'.
That’s so funny. To reply to the double runout idea. The ball becomes dead as soon as the first man is out. The ball isn’t dead just by breaking the stumps though. For example if a batsman is in and the ball hits the stumps it’s possible to get more runs. Or still make a runout by removing a stump with ball in hand
And they lost 2 runs at least. I can't think of any run out where the ball has gone as far as that and they haven't even got a run out of it.
Saw a great video of some village game where the wicket keeper took the ball but turned around and pretended it had gone down to 3rd man,the batter started to run and he just whipped the bales off to win the match, unbelievable. Just can't find the video!!
When I was keeping I used to pretend I'd taken it, to fool the batsmen into not running a bye after I'd had a bit of a fumble.
I think the video was on the BBC website a few weeks ago. Opinion in the comments section seemed to be that the umpire should've called the batsman back and awarded the batting team 5 runs - apparently there's a rule against deceiving the batsman. Totally against the spirit of the game anyway!
Yeah I'm sure it's a new rule that came in about a year ago as international fielders kept sliding and pretending they'd got the ball to stop the batsmen running. To do what that keeper did was pretty pathetic to be fair judging by the level they were playing at, although the batsmen shouldn't have run as he clearly didn't know where the ball was.
