Gets pompey promoted but has now left them to manage............wigan. Odd move pompey have much more potential and a bigger club. Backward move if ever they will probley keep morsey though as he played under cook at chesterfield so will no doubt try persuade him to stay.

I think he did the same at Chesterfield , he got them into a decent position in league 1 then jumped ship to pompey in league 2 . Decent manager though . 3rd division footballer on ten grand a week ...unbelievable!

He made a strange move from Chesterfield to Pompey in the 1st place. If I remember correctly, Chesterfield had just finished 6th in league 1 when he took over at Portsmouth.

It's not really an odd move as he played at Wigan for 4 years from 1984-1988. More importantly Portsmouth Supporters Trust who own the club have recently voted in favour of a takeover from American Michael Eisner so there's uncertainty and no guarantees the new owner would want him in charge down there.

He stated today there was some uncertainty with how he and the new board would work after Eisner and Co. set out different plans to what were originally said when Cook came in from Chesterfield.

Pompey are a bigger club but at the moment, Wigan are in a better position to get promotion next season with their squad and now with Cook in charge.

Yes he is a former Wigan player and hes a scouser so that is his part of the country. I was also surprised when he left a play off team like Chesterfield for a team of Lg Two under achievers like Portsmouth.
Maybe he thinks hes taken Portsmouth as far as he can, or has finally done his job there and got them out of Lg Two as champions etc.
