cannot say the Shrewsbury team are owt to shout about. Why are we after him He seems to be a long ball man, and the football they are playing is poor
Would agree it's not pretty on the eye. His teams are always set up well and put balls into dangerous areas. No nonsense, football played by percentages, it's worked more often than not. Question is would this style work in the championship? Cardiff got promoted playing the same way. Warnock football never pretty but effective. Same goes for Big Sam Horses for courses, you can't please everyone unless you're winning (unless you're a West Ham and Everton fan).
He took a team bottom end of L1, with a squad of misfits, cast offs and a couple of young lads on loan to the fringe of automatic promotion. He got every ounce of talent and spirit out of the players, created an ethos of hard work and nearly pulled off what would be considered near miraculous with the squad he has. Shrewsbury were outplayed today. No questions. Those writing off Hurst on the back of that are delusional if they can’t see what he has achieved. Our level is League 1. That’s the league we are now in. Not sure we can attract the world class managers some are holding out for. Hurst, or Ainsworth, Bowyer or McCann all would be welcomed by me. And am confident any of those 4 will give us a brilliant chance of promotion.
Hit nail on head mate. We could try and get a Scholes or Butt they'd be marquee signings. However they've got no experience of managing and neither have played at league one level so it'd be alien to them. It's a shot in the dark, but we've got to match the new manager to the players we have under contract. Though many will disagree we have enough quality on the books for league one and another crack at the championship. Biggest question is will the players want to be part of it or will they have instructed their agents to get them out of the club. Rotherham got promoted because they kept the players who wanted to fight and added players up for it.
Be interesting to see what Rotherham do over the summer in the transfer market. I can't see them spending much at all (contrary to what their chairman bleats on about on radio Sheff). Last time in the Championship they supposedly had the same budget as Huddersfield who went up through the play offs. I can see them easily finishing bottom of the league.
Don't really agree with that; he brought Payne on and went two up top just ten mins in the second half, and within two minutes they'd equalised. They then lost two players to injury which didn't help. They didn't play well today, but as occook says, he's worked miracles there. Look where all their players are from; unheard of loan players from Norwich, non-league, Accrington etc. They also had two of their best players ruled out for the season in Feb and April which hampered them, but they still reached Wembley. Re the style of play, they have been more of a 'keep it tight at the back and win 1-0' side, but that's possibly because of the average/poor calibre of player at his disposal.
