Last penalty of ours at home I remember was Bristol city October 29th, Winnall missed it. Disgraceful really.
It does seem a bit odd that in over a year we've apparently not once been fouled in what is a fairly sizeable area of the pitch.
I mentioned this back in September. That day, both Millwall and ourselves were awarded a penalty! Hopefully, your query will result in us getting one tomorrow. Now if it's given for an accidental handball outside the area like last season, or for a trip a couple of yards outside the area, like at Elland Road five years ago, so much the better. I keep hearing & reading how these things 'even themselves' out, but never actually see it happen.
Promotion season in 96/97 we got absolutely loads of penalties, and to be fair quite a few of them were marginal calls. Bolton home was clearly given to even out an earlier poor decision, and the one we were given at home to Man City was incredibly dubious. Having said that I don't remember us scoring any direct from a throw in that season.....
So, 21 years ago we got a couple of soft penalties. Well, that's alright then. It's not as if we had blatant penalties turned down at Anfield or Old Trafford, either, the following years. If we get a couple of dubious penalties awarded to us tomorrow, along with a few more this season, then I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong.
As I said in my post, we're definitely due a goal directly from a throw in to even out the Tom Cowan one. I'd take that tomorrow, along with a Gunnar Halle at Oldham style penalty where one of their defenders farts in the general vicinity of Bradshaw and he falls over in the box.
I've become a real Victor Meldrew with regards to match officials since winning promotion back to the Championship, old mate.
We already had one in 1938. FA Cup fourth round against Manchester United at Oakwell. Frank Bokas scored direct from a throw-in, with the 'keeper naively getting a touch. It ended 2-2.
