Posted the cover back through their letter box this morning with "Shame on you!" written on it. Childish , may be, but it made me feel good. Boycotting for a week or so, but probably will buy it again because it's not bad for a local rag, try reading the Bury Free Press or East Anglia Daily News - "Thetford Man Grows Giant Marrow" ooh missis.

Looks like the BBC are following suit with politically positioned boycotts and have stopped playing (blocked play button) out that 'Liar Liar' song on their website. So lets now stop paying our licence.

There have been some concerns regarding the advertising taken by The Conservative Party on the outer pages of the Chronicle this week.

The Chronicle operates a comprehensive policy of non discrimination – which includes a commitment to treating everyone fairly regardless of their beliefs or political opinions.

You will have seen that the Labour Party had two advertisements in this week’s paper including a full page on page seven.

The Labour Party has funded similar wraps to the Conservative one featured in the Chronicle today in newspapers in other parts of the country.

We did try to make it clear that the advertisements on today’s outer pages were exactly that – advertisements that were paid for by third parties expressing their own views that were in no way a reflection of the views of this paper.

If that was not clear to readers we apologise unreservedly. The Chronicle does not endorse any of the advertisements featured in the paper.

The Chronicle itself has no political bias – we believe that it is essential for local and national democracy that we report independently upon and challenge all views and opinions expressed by all political parties that may have an impact upon, or be of interest to, our readers.

No you must never go there again.

Plus the said battlebus must have travelled on public roads to get to the potting shed car park. So you must immediately in protest stop paying any taxes that might go on to be used in tarmac maintenance.

Yes but was the owner of said business welcoming the said passengers with open arms...because that then takes on a different stance. Now that would be a kick in the teeth for the good people of Barnsley

The business owner, if demonstrating any preference for a political party other than labour, must have their concern boycotted, and thus be put out of business.

This goes for any business owner in the area with similar procilivities.

    Non-socialism will not be tolerated.

If you can't see why a front page ad by the Tories would be seen as nothing short of trechery in a Barnsley newspaper then you didn't go through the strike, simple as.

So lets put things into some reality and perspective here. Barnsley Chronicle has allowed political parties to pay for advertisements as part of this weeks newspaper. Lots of people throwing a wobbly because the Tories have a wrap around the front page. So breaking this down into what I am reading into this :-

Labour didn't want to pay for a more prominent advert, hence they have a full page spread on page 7. On the other hand the tories have purchased a higher value advert which means they secured the wrap around. Nothing would have stopped Labour or the Lib Dems from buying the more prominent advertising space so it was always a level playing field. Some peoples responses are way OTT when they talk about boycotting the newspaper but I guess that is their choice.

It poses the question as to whether the Tories actually believed they could win votes in Barnsley following our strong pro Brexit vote last June. I think it is highly unlikely that would happen as Barnsley is pretty much one of Labours strongholds and safest seats nationally. Could we also read into this choice of adverts that Labour take the Barnsley vote for granted so decided to run with the cheaper advert knowing full well the tories were wanting the wrap around. It's a question worth asking. Even though I'll be casting my vote for Labour, I expect them to work for my vote and convince me of their policies. So I don't accept that the chronicle have sold their soul, it's just pure business and all parties could have contested their interest in buying the far better advertising space.

Onto the matter of the wrap around. In general I don't particularly like this form of advertisement because it does form a more sub conscious message that whatever is on this space is endorsed by the newspaper, especially considering that it is made to look like the normal front page with the newspapers logo at the top. So, I don't think that wrap arounds should be allowed to be utilised by political parties whether that be the tories or labour or indeed any other party. But the fact of the matter is, they are allowed to and the tories have simply paid more than labour to take advantage of this.

At the end of the day, I can't see it making any difference in Barnsley as we will still return a Labour MP.

If people are really offended by this, get out and promote Labour rather than getting your knickers in twist.. Another landslide for Labour in Barnsley and I can virtually guarantee they won't buy the same advertising space again. But get real folks, to say the Chronicle has a Tory bias is laughable, just look at the content on a weekly basis. It's easier to find wally than a tory advert. Lol.

    End of rant.

When I bought my Chronicle I did the decent thing I tore the front cover off dumped it on the counter and asked where the bin was. I also told them they should be ashamed for selling The S**. I complained to the Chronicles FB page and got the standard reply. I won't boycott it though. I need to know who has just been born, who has just Married and who has just died and it's the best for coverage of the Reds and local Athletics.

The Tories wouldn't squander money trying to win votes in Barnsley - the target is voters in Penistone and Stocksbridge where Labour had a majority of only 6,723 at the last election. Even tighter in 2010. It's the 70th least safe Labour seat. That's also why Theresa May was in Silkstone on Saturday.
