So I fell asleep last night. And I also didn't include Victor or George Miller in the strikers bit for some reason. Be reight.

Anyway, here is the side we've voted for.

    Walton
    Sollbauer
    Hellik
    Anderson
    Williams
    Oduor
    Palmer
    Mowatt
    Styles
    Woodrow
    Chaplin

We landed on a 3-5-2 formation, with Williams and Oduor as wing backs and a midfield 3 of Mowatt, Styles and Palmer. It seems we are lacking in an enforcer type player, so we've gone for the energy of Palmer which will hopefully allow Styles and Mowatt to get further up the pitch.

Woodrow and Chaplin lead the line, despite struggling to play together in a similar system over the last 3 months.

    Conclusions....

We have settled on a very similar system and personnel to what Struber started the season with. Is this due to the fact that we don't have many other options? Is it down to the fact that it's not necessarily the system that was the issue but rather something else? Are we simply hamstrung by the type of players we have that we have to play this way? Or are we just massive hypocrites for criticising Struber when we've democratically voted a very similar system and players as he has been using?

Anyway, if Murray plays this side against Bristol then we can't complain in theory. It was the will of the people!

    Forgot to post the bench.

Looking at the results we've got....

    Collins
    Halme
    Bahre
    Wolfe
    Thomas
    Simoes
    Schmidt

Let's just hope we don't have many injuries at the back!

    Solbauer
    Helik
    Anderson
    Oduor
    Mowatt - 1 in midfield
    Chaplin

Collins RB? I know we haven't got many options but we need to start playing players in their correct positions! :);)

The sad thing about these votes is we probably picked the team and formation Adam Murray is going to pick. So we hate him but he's likely going to do what we want haha. Can't win.

352 cuts no ice with me. I can kind of see why we've ended up there, but for me it's a fallacy to think that the squad can't do better in another formation.

Personally I'd have gone 442 as I believe that Sollbauer and Anderson are solid enough (usually) as a CB pairing. I prefer fullbacks, covered by wide midfielders when we're on the back foot and supporting them in turn when we have the ball. Overlapping runs, getting to the goal line, crosses and low passes into danger areas. The kind of service that sees strikers get into double figures.

IMO a standard midfield 4 always looks stronger than a midfield 3 plus wing backs. Of course, we've chosen to move away from wide men/wingers, but there are still players who could play in those positions.

Half the battle, though, is not so much the formation, but the attitude and application. For obvious reasons, Struber focused on tightening up the defence, and it paid dividends last season. This season was the time to build on that, but he seems to have been unable or unwilling to do so.

Anyway, if Old Goat's application for the job is successful, we'll be lining up like this...

    Walton
    J Williams Anderson Sollbauer Odour
    Frieser Mowatt Bahre Styles
    Schmidt Woodrow

    Subs
    Collins Helik Halme
    Simoes Palmer Thomas Chaplin

Edit. We're also ditching zonal marking and the high press.

Agree with all of that. I would have Halme next to Mowatt though in the middle, to allow Mowatt to push forward and not have to think about defending.

Yeah, I did consider Halme in that position, but I still can't decide if he's an asset or a liability. ;)

Is this a bit like Brexit?

We democratically decide and everyone replies saying they don't like the result?

I'm jesting. I think that's a solid side. Midfield is a bit weak but playing with a front two rather than a front three will help Cauley and Chaplin no end. Don't forget having Williams able to slot in to the back three and Styles revert to wing back gives us versatility during the game.

We're definitely three players short though!

It's so weird. We've all moaned about formation and personnel over the last month, yet we've settled on the same formation with basically the same players!

The thing is, the first team 11 is obvious based on the players we have. We've only got 2 full backs, so they have to be selected. And the only 2 strikers who have scored double figures for us are the ones selected. Walton has been impressive so is a shoo in. Whether 2 or 3 centre halves they pick themselves. And in midfield, we're extremely limited, so Mowatt, and 2 lads who've hardly started a game are the most obvious selections.

What it does highlight is how weak a squad we have and how much of it is made up of our development squad who've largely yet to be given a chance.

That Bench is OK - if we get an injury to one defender we can put Halme in Not sure we have many other defenders left with first team experience now Ludwig and Bambo arent around anymore and Williams (B) is crocked
Wondering the wisdom of getting rid of Dougall with no replacement
