Sorry for the football post, I agree it doesn’t matter in the slightest. It appears that the vast majority of players from oversees have gone back to their native country to wait this out, as they have been asked to by their own governments etc. At the very least it appears Andersen, Struber and Sollbauer have all gone home, judging by what I’ve seen on Twitter. Surely this applies to all clubs and is a massive reason why the season can’t be finished any time soon?
It's over. No restarts in June, September whatever. The sooner football accepts the gravity of the situation the better. How things get resolved beyond this is the thorny issue.
Aye I can't see it being played out this year. Personally I would welcome a whole year off and pick the season back up next year from where it left off this year.
Many clubs would fold, in that scenario, though, an entire season missing. There is no right answer, just a series of solutions with a multitude of problems.
They need to apply a Force Majure like they have in the lower leagues. Finished. End off. The only reason the bigs boys dont want this is the amount of money they will have to pay back. Its not about Covid-19 with them - its all about MONEY MONEY MONEY
I I actually said this last week, from a footballing perspective it makes sense but not from a commercial aspect
See also cricket, without the IPL, domestic season and test matches the entire game is in trouble (worldwide).
If many of the 'foreign players' went home then it could be quite a few months until they are allowed back in (or are allowed to leave their own respective countries).
There is currently nothing to stop anyone just walking into the country through an airport and no requirement for quarantine. Infectious or not. There are still multiple flights daily from New York and other places with high infections rates.
Are you sure? The majority of passenger flights we are seeing now are repatriation one's only (to and from). If you look on Manchester Airport arrivals/departures you will see the majority of flights have been cancelled.
Its Its a massive reason why those players should be furloughed? Utterly crazy that they can be living in another country and getting full pay as though they're working
But the actual matchday is only a small (in terms of time) part of their work. All the training can be done in any country
Heathrow has (today) had flights from Los Angeles, Rome, Singapore, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Doha, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth and a lot of other places. Don't get me wrong, flights are significantly down on normal, but planes are still incoming.
They're massively down. Heathrow is one of the largest airports in the world. Manchester has a skeleton service. Most of these flights will be british citizen repatriation flights plus freight. Most countries are not allowing its citizens to leave the country unless it's essential. Playing football is not essential. I know people who are stuck overseas. Incidentally my sister who lives in america came home for a visit 2 days before trump barred re-entry. She's stuck here for the duration. So its not easy.
They are massively down, but even if it was just repatriations that doesn't mean that everyone is virus free. We should be stopping people from walking out of the airport and straight into the country. BTW I did read that Germany put on a repatriation flight from Cambodia for all EU citizens (mainly Brits there), but the British embassy refused to tell Brits that the flight was on so it was half-full.
I agree completely. There should be rigourous screening (no idea exactly what screening is in place) and a quarantine period if symptomatic. I was just pointing out that it's now extremely difficult for people to fly or travel to another country that is not their own.
