As soon as we got off the coach we bumped into some of their fans and then some more outside the away end. Very friendly and knowledgeable, but came across as long suffering and didn't fancy their chances. They said that if we got the early goal they would collapse and sadly for them, they were spot on. I've just read on their forum they thought we were very good. 'Best team to visit this season". Magnanimous in defeat. Classy. I felt a bit embarrassed to yet again see some apron sniffers in our end being arsey with stewards and singing "going down". Thankfully they were in a minority, and the rest got behind our own lads.
The stewards were fine and knew they were a bit the worse for wear. We had the chants last year and as I said to them hopefully next year if they are relegated they could start winning again. One fan was asking about Barnsley, says the ground always looked good on the telly with the fields in the distance. All wished us well.
Same can be said of most supporters I have come across this year - very friendly & knowledgeable. Proper fans. Will miss this next season !
'worse for wear' is no excuse for being an absolute arse hole with stewards that are just trying to show you to your seat. Some people should lose the attitude. It's a sports event when alls said and done, not an excuse to be unsociable.
It's a mixed bag with stewards for me. Annoys me when they try and direct you to your seat even if you dont want them to. I can work out row and seat numbers on my own. Or when you are with someone and they look at his ticket and still want to see yours.
Just a matter of being polite though surely? If you don't need help, just say "I'm ok thanks" job done.
You would think and usually is the case but not always. Really notice the difference back in league one how much more friendly it is at most places.
I don't like Plymouth since the game that was called off. Their fans were numpties at Oakwell with the old '4-1 and you fvcked it up' chant. They were spot-on yesterday, though, even after the game. I wish them well and hope they stay up.
There was a young lad (maybe late teens) a row or 2 in front of me who kept making gestures at the away fans all game whilst shouting and swearing. The man next to him, I assume was his dad, kept telling him to calm down. Absolutely no need for it when surely you can just enjoy the game. He was one of those wannabe hooligans that if approached by an away fan after the game would’ve run a mile
Then just let them show you to your seat/see your ticket. I’ve had stewards show me to my seats/check my tickets in all manner of events when I could find my own way. I just follow them and thank them.
It's that simple, it really is. Just basic manners and a bit of respect for someone trying to do their job.
Gets frustrating was all, i remember once at Derby think it was the first season up last time under Hecky, I had to show my ticket at the bottom of the stairs upto the stand, then at the top to be directed to my seat. Then when i went down to buy a drink and came back had to show it again despite telling them I had already been up to my seat. Might just be me being overly fussy but i prefer finding my own way especially as i often can do it faster than the stewards who work there.
I spoke to a load of them as I made my way back into the City after the game. To a man they were complimentary (about us), knowledgable and rather down on their own chances. Top fans for me.
