It’s not as if it’s a Wendy type bid for Winnall to weaken us for a promo scrap as he’s not a regular first teamer. If the price is right and he wants to go I’d be inclined to let him. It’s a shame though because imo if he put the graft in he’d be a top player for someone .
Transfer a creative attacker to our rivals... great idea. Or we could try to get the best out of Moncur?
I wouldn't sell a player to a rival. I can imagine the meltdown on here if we did sell him to Pompey and he helped them to a top two spot at our expense.
We sold Winnall to a local rival and recently Angus Mcdonald to a relegation rival. We aren't like Portsmoutu who were unwilling to sell us a player due to being promotion rivals. I wouldn't be shocked if we sold him to them due to our past. But it would be annoying doing for them what they wouldn't do for us.
I think it's fair to say he'll be moving on at the end of the season. Mowatt's deal has been sorted, as he's earned it. I think Davies may get one offered. Cavare & Moncur?
I cannot believe fans are advocating moving Moncur on this january, especially to one of our rivals, but the fans who want him to go will be the first ones to moan that the once again the january sales have begun . Recent history should be enough evidence to suggest it might be more prudent to strengthen, instead of weaken the squad . Lets learn from the past & keep the squad together & make additions where required .
Yeah I mean we've only had him nearly 2 and a half seasons to do that... I wouldn't be delighted if we sold him but equally wouldn't be gutted. He's not offered enough while he's been here, even at this level.
Wouldn't be overly pleased if we let him go to a rival in Jan however he has done nothing in 2 and a half years to prove he deserves a new deal. If someone else can get "the best" out of him then great, 3 different coach's have failed to do that here and by all accounts during his loan spell at Peterborough too. Or just maybe we have got the best out of him and that's your lot.
Totally agree with this, But I trust our owners will do what's best for the club on this occasion. If he did go id feel confident they will have a quality replacement lined up.
As with Bradshaw, maybe the way you strengthen a team is to bring in players that are better than the ones you let go? I quite like Moncur, but his output, as with just about every "creative" midfielder is nominal and extremely inconsistent. We have a lot of flat track bullies. We can smash teams when they let us. When they fight, we're the ones who collapse. If it means we lose 3 or 4 players with suspect characters without the stomach for the promotion fight and bring in winners and potential captains, that's fine with me.
He's a decent impact sub. Whether that warrants us offering a new deal has to be debatable. If new players are to come in, then you'd probably expect a few peripheral players to go the other way to keep within FFP rules. Cover for Kenny & a decent right back in & maybe another attacker / wide player with some pace & I'd lose no sleep over Moncur moving on.
Bradshaw has not been replaced , yes Woodrow is a great signing but a different type of player , he should have been brought in to support our two main strikers but that ship has sailed. The last thing we want is a repeat of the january sales , squad strengthening should be a priority & moving players on from our current first team pool should be put on hold until the close season .
