I tend to agree. I for one am not interested in that sort of thing. But as long as people keep saying it'll never work while nobody's tried it...self-fulfilling prophecy.
I can't see why anybody would look at that negatively tbh. We have always said its best to not spend shitloads of money that you don't have and put the club into debt and that seems to be the way they are looking, similar as to now but with probably more business expertise and funds. However they haven't bought into the club to watch it fail, especially in their first (part) season in charge and as to aspirations what is wrong in just saying they want to improve year on year surely thats more sensible than saying prem in 5 years or bust, or something stupid. As for not promising huge team investment, they are obviously looking at January with the intention of bringing in more players but what kind of businessmen would they be if they gave the impression they had unlimited funds available thats just asking for other clubs to up the price.
What about our time in the Premier League, our visits to Wembley, even away days. Did folk just set off to the ground to arrive 10mins before kick off. No, we made a day of it. We may have got tonked 7-0, but we still had a good time. Both before and after a match. What if they could bring that buzz around Oakwell. Get the fans in the mood before a game and possibly effect the result.
Fair enough I guess but that means you’d feel like that whoever it was that was taking over. To give you a bit of optimism I’d ask how much money do you think they could make out of the club in the short term? ( obviously zero unless we go up quickly which you don’t think can happen without major input of cash). Will we be any worse off than the current ownership if they intend to make sure we break even? For love or for the love of money - love comes in many forms.
I’m rather more optimistic than you, but your posts have been very rational and yr willingness to respond to counterpoints do you credit. There’s no need for any of us to fall out over this. As I see it, we’ve got a well run club that’s been short in investment which means we’ve had to (or chosen to) make some poor short term decisions in relation to the playing staff. We shouldn’t have to do that in future and decisions can be based on what’s good for the team - as well as the Cub. We’ve got the best coach we’ve had here in decades who has been hamstrung by uncertainty about the future and we now have greater certainty. All good. As I say, i’m Optimistic for the moment and happy to judge the owners on their future actions.
I don't see much connection between Manchester City's owners and Manchester. I don't think their fans would swap the entertainment they're getting now though. They didn't have that with Francis Lee!
