Been a pain in my posterior for ages, I posted about it a month or two back and saw a lot of you have the same issue.

I came across a solution (that some of you may already be aware of no doubt) that allows you to completely block ads on these sites (Star, Yorkshire Post etc) and get around the "Sorry, you have your adblocker turned on!" message.

    Uninstall adblock from Chrome.

Install uBlock Origin instead. It catches most of these and gets rid of them. If you do still get one it has a function built in where you can right click the annoying pop-up, tell uBlock to get rid of it and then refresh. It can take a minute or two to highlight the right part but once it's done it's done for good.

Other solutions are to access Google's cache of the page, or turn off javascript.

Both work but feel less practical and more faffy

Just tried it on the Yorkshire Post and it seemed to work at first but now I don't get the pop-up but the page greys out and the scroll-bar is removed (chrome)....

Happened to me, right click around the edge of the greyed out area and block it then refresh
