    Been up to Leeds today.
While there I had a couple of good real ale pints in a couple of the pubs.

Got on the train back to Barnsley and thought I’d have a drink in TARN.

Brahmas - as per usual, stood for a long while waiting to get served - eventually pointed to the only real ale badge that interested me and asked for a pint.
Got the reply which is becoming more and more frequent in that boozer ‘that ones gone off’.
FFS why show the pump badge if they haven’t got any to sell !?!?!
This boozer continues to go down the pan very quickly - and has been doing so now for over the last 12 months.
    Walked out.

No. 7 - looked through the window - about 6 people in. I know it sells good real ale but I just do not like this boozer.
It’s like supping in a long dismal corridor.
It just does not have a warm welcoming atmosphere.
    Walked away.

White Bear - walked around the bar looking at the pumps - all were the modern fizzy slape beers. Shi.te.
    Walked out.

Garrison - noticed it had ale signs outside so I went in. Found the choice to be more or less the same modern fizzy slape beers I’d seen at the White Bear.
    Walked out.
Thought I’d go to the beer shop in the Arcade.

    Arcade beer shop - closed.

    Went home.

FFS - for the size of the town of Barnsley can’t someone open a decent sized pub that sells a range of real ales !?!?!

Town has perked up in the past 3 years or so, doesn’t happen over night. Keep going to Leeds.

It depresses me how few pubs there are in town that sell real ale. I like the ones that do and there's certainly more choice than a few years ago, but it's sadly lacking compared to a lot of other places

For anyone from Barnsley that likes a good boozer with a choice of good real ales - then all their days are bad ones.
It’s ok if yer like slape.
If yer like a range of good ales to go at then it’s shi.te !!!

Why not try Tipsy Cow and Tin Oyle at Gateway Plaza? Both usually have a decent choice of real ales.

Because they’re not in TARN centre.
You shouldn’t have to walk all the way up there looking for a decent pint in a decent pub.

What about Temple of Muses? Used to be Browns. That’s supposed to be a good pub. Serves decent amount of real ale.

Can’t be more than a 7/8 minute walk from White Bear surely....
I’d have suggested same but don’t think it opens in midweek, especially in an afternoon.

Ok I'll state the obvious and bite-

Leeds is a CITY centre (more choice)
Glad you can afford Leeds prices
You won't walk around a town centre but will walk around a CITY centre

    Yep agree.
It would be great if there were 3 or 4 like Sheffield Tap in the middle of Barnsley.

I was in the No. 7 after last night’s match. Agree the atmosphere is not always great, but the beer makes up for it.

I usually go in for one before a Satdi match.
Top beer - no doubt about that.
But the place itself has no atmosphere - it’s dull - it’s uncomfortable - it’s like supping in a long corridor or subway.

    Thanks for that.

    No really, thanks.

BTW, what’s “slape” ? Does it rhyme with shape?
