Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth New towns, planned growth and planned employment. Government investment in the infrastructure and new homes will create jobs and wealth. The only thing that causes people to group together in already congested urban areas us greenbelt planning laws which confines where we live to 15% of the land.
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth Get rid of the greenbelt and build me a house on the top of Scafell Pike... it'd be a bit breezy and a bit of a walk to the shops though. If you did get rid of greenbelt wouldn't that just contribute to an increase in urban sprawl with 'dead areas' in the centre ?
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth A sensible discussion. Ok provide hard factual evidence to back up any assertions made. Theresa May was recently asked to provide evidence to support the governments thesis that immigrants are putting extra pressure on the NHS and that health tourism and benefit tourism exists. She was unable to do as no such Data exists. Instead what she said was because we believe it to be true it is true. Factually there appears to be widespread agreement that immigrants add value to the economy as an example read the Bell and Martin report I posted yesterday. Factually to be economically stable unless we reverse extended life spans we need to regenerate our economy. There is unless you have access to information our government doesn't no evidence other than anecdotal exists to back up any assertions that the infrastructure of our country cannot cope with the level of immigration we currently have. In terms of population do you agree that we as a country have am ageing population. If we do not increase out population how do you propose we regenerate the economy. An ageing population with fewer and fewer people of working age to fund it is a recipe for disaster. Any A level Economist can tell you that. I don't believe in unfettered immigration, I don't believe that new economic migrants should have any access to public services until they have contributed over a qualifying period. I also don't feel that threads that start of calling immigrants rats can go without being challenged. In times of economic crisis history shows us that those in power give the disenfranchised an enemy rather than looking at the real cause of the crisis. Why look at the banking system and the capitalist system that underpins it when you can blame immigrants or the poor or the disabled.
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth Maybe Barnsley is getting the wrong type of immigrants then? Ever thought of that? Maybe all the nice ones who are educated and hard working got to nicer towns and cities where there are jobs and opportunities. The fact that there has been a number of attacks in town by people who don't appear to be British seem to add to this argument. One can only draw on personal experiences and I for one believe that some of the people who have come to barnsley seem to be bad uns. People find it easier to form opinions on experiences rather than what people tell them.
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth Jimmy you need to learn what the definition of an immigrant is mate before you start singling people out as immigrants. You've just called Pederson one or at least a son of one! How do you know he wants live here permanently? Same could be said for Scotland he may have plans to return to the West Indies When his career is over, I would. In a nutshell pal you are being a bit RACIST aren't you ? Some would say That you are tarring them with the same brush. Not everyone from a Foreign land is here forever you know.
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth I was just being silly obviously. Pedersen has said himself he sees himself as a long term economic migrant wishing to play in the premiership. Of course if you want to make the differential and make the assumption that he will not achieve his goal. We could play him up front on his own in a revolutionary 2-1-1 formation. at the same time For clarity. There is no distinction in law as per below. So any time you want to admit you were wrong feel free. http://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/briefings/who-counts-migrant-definitions-and-their-consequences
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth Recent figures suggest 9.5m over 25 years. 43% of that will be down to people entering the country. Which = 4,085,000. Link
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth Don't worry Dave, I'm not advocating concreting over the Lake District! Planned growth and release of small targeted sections of the greenbelt. So much is farmer's fields that are left to fallow, have no public access, and have zero biodiversity due to the pesticides that are used. A tiny proportion of this type of land with proper transport links and localised employment would go a long way to dealing with our housing problems. I certainly think it's better than cramming every bit of development on every patch of open space in our existing urban areas just because of the artificial constraints of an arbitrary line on a map
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth So how do you know that the Poles etc coming here aren't going to go back eventually, so by your analysis they can't be classed as immigrants then. Migrant is simple another term for it, but doesn't actually specify in which direction, i.e. in or out of the country. It's now being used as "economic migrant" which is basically just someone moving to another country for work or financial reasons.
Re: finally someone who can see it in its naked truth I have tried getting a doctors appointment - no problems, and when I used the NHS I also saw immigrants working there so it's a 2 way street. As to "other immigrants provide no economic benefit at all, in fact the opposite." - people have put forward reports that show immigrants provide a net benefit to the UK, you on the other hand just threw forward a statistic. My wife is an immigrant and cannot access benefits, she may be American but she is not a weathy banker (I wish she were!)
