Just seen how bad the line up is this year. I don't think there's a single band playing that I would pay to see. And what the hell was Eminem doing playing there?

Went to Edinburgh festival this year, Bestival last couple of years. Both were far better than what Leeds has become these days.

What do you mean "playing"? What does he actually play?

It is what it is. There's 100s of festivals out there. Just pick one you like, and let Leeds Festivallers get on with it

That poster made me feel good. I know every single band on there. Some I like, some not so much. Nowadays I haven't a clue who any of them are.

Look how far Nirvana are down the list! I was never a big fan of them, although I did buy Nevermind. My friend Mark went to see them at the Octagon in Sheffield a bit before or a bit after that Reading Festival. They were touring Nevermind but it was still to be released. He asked if I wanted to go, but I said I wasn't bothered. Not long after they played Smells Like Teen Spirit on The Word and went stratospheric. It still bugs me that I didn't go.

People think Kurt Cobain was a dyed in the wool rocker, but he actually liked indiepop, much of it from the UK. A small English band called The Wolfhounds released a single called The Anti-Midas Touch in 1986, which I'm sure Kurt would have been aware of. IMHO that was his influence for the guitar riff on Smells Like teen Spirit.

Really interesting read, I know I would be gutted to have missed the chance to see them live.

The thing that blows my mind on that poster is seeing Simon Munnery, Stewart Lee and Richard Herring on the bill, all of whom I saw this month at Edinburgh still going strong 22 years on. The same goes for The Fall who I saw a couple of months ago.

Wasn't it "More Than A Feeling" by Boston? Then he plagiarised Killing Joke's "Eighties" for "Come As You Are".

I also thought his two favourite bands were Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, hence the song on Incesticide. I could be wrong as I was never into Nirvana. There were far better bands in that scene in my opinion.

From his own hand. He always aspired to be the Pixies. Enjoy seeing The Frogs on there on a personal level, they are a ridiculous band.

That list of bands makes sense. I never really saw Cobain as a heavy rock/metal influenced person, although he did have a very metal image at one point in the very early days.

Thought they sounded awful on BBC3 last night.

went to Reading in 1980, 82 and 87 - some great line ups.

Yes they were. I'd seen them before had a few albums.

When their vocalist left to go solo in the late 80's - Rob Armitage (Baby Tuckoo) from Shafton took over for a while though they didn't record anything with him in the band.
