Have been sat here for a couple of days wondering wether to post this or not and thought b******s to it.
Have it on a very good source within the club that Daniel had asked over a month ago if he could be
released from his contract as he was being undermined with the signing of players and he couldn’t
work with the players he had been given.Apparently he only had input to 2 players that were signed
in the summer. It seems that young Cryne is sat in an office trawling through available players, looking
through their stats, making a list and saying go out and sign these players. Now I don’t know if this is true
so don’t go shooting the messenger and don’t ask me who the source is,but it could explain quite a bit.

I'm surprised James Cryne doesn't get more of a mention when it comes to bashing the board.

Whether or not what you've been told is true, it's common knowledge that he is a big part of our recruitment and why the owners are here.

Maybe he's more clever than we thought, and actually made the owners believe there was money to be made out of football?

That gets the NaCl treatment. Just a pinch of course.

Its probably not far off..... Its not like its our first manager to have 'issues' with recruitment/the board. Which makes it all the more depressing in regards to our potential new head coach, its just going to be the same again. As has been mentioned in other threads if only there was someone with an ounce of footballing knowledge within that boardroom...... Feels like there just playing football manager at the minute.

If that was the case and he didnt have suggestions about what could be done then why sack him? Release him from his contract as requested.

I didn’t know or hear about him nearly resigning but I can believe it. I was saying in the summer when we were signing kids & didn’t replace Moore that I wouldn’t be surprised if he resigned as he’s away from his family & doesn’t have ties to keep him here longer like Heckingbottom had.

I was told he’d only been involved in Bahre & Radlinger’s signings but that was a mate of a mate rumour. The whole ‘final say’ has always been nonsense anyway. Look at the centre backs, Diaby a 21 year old from the Belgian league, Anderson a 21 year old from the Danish league, Halme a 21 year old who’d only played 4 times for Leeds but before that had only played in Finland & Sibbick a 20 year old who’s mainly played right back in league two. Imagine what the other options & how little experience they had if these four were seen as the best options.

To be fair the quality of the players we are signing is pretty good, considering the fees that we are paying. The problem is not having the spine of more experienced players in my mind. A few, like Wilks, Halme, Jordan Williams should not really be starters as yet. We've just thrown a lot of decent young prospects out on to the field with no leaders. If I could criticise DS for anything it would be his selection of Bahre as captain, as he's been Bahre-ly good enough to get into the team. The obvious choice would have been Mowatt or Pinnock, had he not been sold.

He wanted Pinnock as captain. I think we do know he's been sacked.

He explained his decision making process on this one for captain. He said there were essentially three captains in the squad; Bahre, McGeehan and Dougall (I'm certain it was Dougall) and that it could change game by game based on the Starting XI. He ruled Mowatt out as captain and said that Alex doesn't want the responsibility of talking to players, passing on messages, or anything like that as it isn't in his automatic nature or character. He mentioned that McGeehan as very vocal and positive, but that 'Mike and Kenny' are always talking to the younger players, always available for advice, and always passing messages on.

Pinnock was offered £10k a week and the captain's armband, allegedly.

To be fair I was told the same but elected not to share it as I wasnt entirely convinced it was true, and it came probably 3rd or 4th hand

Thing is we may never know.
We don't know for sure how good a manager Daniel would have been.
We know he is a top bloke and really energised the club last season and got us back up with an exciting style of play.
We do know that this season when things went wrong that there didn't seem to be a plan B, only variations of the same with repeated mistakes.
Personally on reflection I still think he was shafted by the board, they knew his style of play and should have given him the tools to go for it in the Championship, and the lack of 2 or 3 experience pro's beggars belief.
What we don't and now will never know is how adaptable he would have been if he had been given the players and the system still didn't work.

Assume he will get another job fairly soon, so that might give an indication. I think the fact that he wasn't given the support, after a great season in his first term is somewhat of a disappointment to us all. We are used to it supporting BFC.

To be fair, it's a fairly large business in a small town.

I know someone who works at the club, although I wouldn't call that person a source. I ask that person about the club when I see them because it's a mutual interest for us both but don't repeat what that person has said. I have once, which was probably the wrong decision on my part, but I tried to make sure that person was not identifiable, and I thought it important.

I also know a relation to someone who worked at the club for a long time. I don't think it's that unusual to know someone who works at Oakwell.

Not that far off. James Cryne set the ball rolling but his invention has been taken over. He doesn't have the say people think.

Not totally shafted the board wanted him to resign. He wouldn't. Hence the sack and legal proceedings.

First part, your source is bang on. Last bit regarding James Cryne is wrong and abit unfair but that's your opinion.
