Regarding the closed off sections of the ground.

    If we are fortunate to get promoted would it be in the club's interest to get the north end of the old wooden stand reopened and allow the away end to be fully repopulated again.
    I still don't know why they were empty, even when we were in the Champ, but even after the "repairs" to the wooden stand is it still unusable?
    Would that allow for an extra 3000 or so into the ground?

    I don't think we will see anything happen with that side of the west stand until we are regularly close to capacity in the other stands unfortunately.

    Ain’t demand for it.

    If there was, they would reopen the North part of the West. Although they’d have to build some new toilets - the media centre was built where the old ones were, and also the new press box takes a large chunk up too.

    It might work out easier and cheaper to keep that part of West Stand shut and just segregate the North Stand again - it’s designed for it and doesn’t need any work unlike the West Stand. Just netting and additional stewards.

    What do you mean by away end? Use half of the west stand for away fans is that what you mean? I don't think they can use it for away fans as there is no disabled access. (Although that might not be the case if they both North and West I'm not sure)

    There are some facilities that need upgrading before it can be used. e.g. toilets but the club said at the recent engagement forum that they could get it up and running if there was demand but we don't have a demand issue right now.

    They've looked at segregating the North as GG wanted a singing section in there but it's not straight forward as it would impact the safety certificate, new turnstiles would be required, matchday operational changes e.g. away coaches etc as they come out that way. Other stuff that I can't remember :)
    It's doable but its a lot of work and expense so we'd really need to have the demand from home fans before it made any sense

    I just thought that option would be cheaper and quicker than putting new toilets and a catering section back into the North of the West Stand.

    How come new turnstiles are needed? It was built to be segregated, so surely the basic infrastructure still exists to do it?

    It was split when first opened. Home fans went in round back of the east.

    It must have been. I've been in the North Stand a few times when it was split.

    North stand is basically two seperate stands from outside and under the stand split two thirds to one. I sat in there when we played chesterfield just after it opened

    It's about time the local safety group pissed off.

    Speaking of away coaches. What's the logic behind the stupid decision to park them behind the east stand engines turned on, pumping out toxic fumes for the fans to breathe in?

    Probably the same logic that they use when escorting away fans down to J36 M1 via Cundy Cross, Stairfoot and Worsborough, regardless of which direction the away fans are going home.

    Last season, I inadvertently ended up in the line of Leeds coaches, being escorted South after the game at Oakwell. There was a huge break in the line so, I started on my way south (home).

    When the line got to Sheffield Rd at Worsborough Bridge, a Police motor cyclist pulled up in front of me and ordered me to turn right up Sheffield RD, back towards town. I tried to indicate that I was going home to Sheffield, but he angrily pointed that I had to go up Sheffield Rd. Presmably my crime was being in the middle of his long line of coaches.

    I don't really understand why in 2019 coaches have to be escorted to and from the ground but I can drive round and round any away stadium in my car

    But the away coach blocks off the home turnstiles now so new ones would be needed so it didn't have to stop polluting the home fans. Madness

    There are two sets of turnstiles at opposite sides of the stand and a full segregation system inside like at most away games. I think the real answer is simply that our stewarding is so poor that the club/ SAG don't have the confidence in their ability to segregate fans in the seating area rather than it being anything about the turnstiles and gates inside the stand suddenly disappearing.

    Correct. I think the advisory group commented on a lack of experience with stewarding for large events and groups in the town. But how did Hudds, Burnley, Bolton and Hull get around it.

    Anyway, my point is. If we did need extra capacity for home support, the easiest and cheapest should be the North Stand via segregation. That’s what it was built for. And even in the Championship, it’s not always at full capacity for the Away team.

    Sat in the segregated side v Portsmouth.years ago .There are already turnstiles adjacent East stand and toilet facilities under stand opposite East stand totally seperate from away fans.Get a good suntan in there when weather's good.And accustically magnifys any singing with not many fans.. Cannot hear Ponti end from there very well.view due to Rake of seating very good.
