Relegation to Patrick was a catastrophe - because of loss of revenue. That is not the case for the new owners and they will have planned for such an event. Jose - unless his role becomes untenable - is here for the long haul - probably 2 to 4 years or even more. The theory of the new owners is to bring in more expensive but still young players from Britain and Europe, and some from beyond Europe, and develop them. Buying and selling while maintaining a good solid team. It would be better if that project started in the Championship - but it’s not a major loss if it doesn’t.
Why should anyone leave a top Championship or Premiership club ??? Got to be a lot of money to take him away.
I'd be very interested to know how the day to day running now works and what communication occurs between the respective shareholders and the exec management (which i'm guessing GG and the cryne family, maybe the FD too?) Time will tell, but I have some sort of niggle about the permanency of this appointment. I'm pretty sure unless performances at least/ or results maybe turn soon, the fans will be less tolerant than whats gone before. I think that's the downside losing Patrick and the former head coach, fans will be quicker to turn. I hope they don't, but we're at a dangerous point. It could be the start of a bounce or the beginning of a dive. I don't think anyone truly knows yet, or what reactions would be from the new owners if it were the latter.
We're not anywhere near a top Championship club. And I think a stable Championship club is all we can ask for in the next few years at best. And if he can make twice of what he's making with us elsewhere, he'll be gone. Don't think he's earning millions at BFC.
Best thing you've ever posted on here Nudge and you're absolutely spot on. With American owners this is the way they do it over there, we're a club in transition that will be better off in the long run. Unfortunately there's no patience in football fans.
The thing is Mr Owen - and I’ve said this numerous times on here before - many fans go to the match and forget about things as soon as they walk out of the gate. They need to listen more closely to what the new owners, GeeGee and Jose are saying and what they are NOT saying. As for comments on this post relating to ‘fans’ —— fans are more or less irrelevant at this point in the project. It doesn’t matter if they are with the club during this stage or they are not - because the new owners realise that at some point they are going to be successful and the comments now of those fickle fans will then have been long long forgotten.
You've clearly not seen his employment history then because he's not what can be described as a stayed, he's never lasted more more than 18 months at any club he's managed since he left Benfica B in 2001 and baring his spell as assistant at Real Madrid his record as an assistant isn't much better
is he ****. have you seen how many clubs he's had? have you also seen what happened with the last two managers, at the first sniff of interest? if he's any good. i mean any good at all. he'll be off. other clubs have seen how easy it is to take our managers. if he's still here in 4 years, it's because he's not much cop.
How many of the other clubs he has worked for as head coach have billionaire owners. He'll stay if the owners want him to.
I know he's only been here six days but who says we will necessarily want him here long term? If we go down without any kind of fight it won't be his choice. I'm not giving up hope on survival yet like.
To be honest our last manager had won.one game in 16 and then left his record is now 1 win in 19 and that was against Sunderland who aren't very good. The manager before had lost 9 in a row but then went on a good run. So maybee jose doesn't have to be that good and he will be poached and leave for more money.
I get a feeling he was always lined up for the job. I think the Sunderland and Forest speculation probably made them have a think of how to go forward if Hecky did leave. I feel the interview process was to see who else it threw up, but generally JM was going to be the one. I kinda get his idea too. Short term if we are relegated, it’s not ideal, but we have the squad and resources to come back stronger. And when/if we were stronger, we no longer have to sell unless it’s great money we receive. Whilst it was a one-off, Leicester proved that over time success can come. But you have to be patient.
I think Jose was being lined up for the job last year. When the new owners said ‘we want the club to have a wider international appeal’ - then how could they achieve that with a lad from Royston who speaks just the one language ‘TARN’ ? IMO - something happened or has been said to make Hecky jump ship. Hecky has seen the writing on the wall. It may not look like it right now - but there is a far bigger chance of long term success at Barnsley compared to Leeds - and Hecky will fully understand that. So why leave? As for the interviews - I said on here right from the start that I would be highly surprised if it was a British based manager. All the indications where - especially what the new owners said when they first took over - was that the club had to have a ‘wider international appeal’. So it was no surprise to me whatsoever that it was someone like Jose - who speaks several languages and has a brilliant track record - the club was looking for someone with international credentials - the club will undoubtedly use those international credentials to attract good young players to Barnsley from all over the world. The club went through the motions of interviewing - and as GeeGee has said - they learnt a lot from that process. No manager turned the club down - because basically IMO no manager other than Jose was ever going to be offered the job. GeeGee said that Jose was their number one choice from the ‘start’. When did that ‘start’ actually start? I’ll have a guess at October 2017. If GeeGee had appointed Jose the day after Hecky had left the club - how would this have looked to us and the media? How would this have been perceived by Leeds and their fans?
Come on Gord - don't turn into a sanctimonious ****. Anyone who had a season ticket throughout your Cryne era deserves a sainthood for their patience. In fact, did you not jack in home games for a bit as you weren't enjoying them? Where was your patience?
