Renewing the car insurance, the insurer asks for the latest M.O.T. certificate, among other things. I remember it needs renewing, and tell them we'll get it done this week.

"Oh, we can do that for you for (quote price about a fiver more than from the testing station)"
"Sounds convenient, what do we need to do?"
"Just send a photo of the ownership document, mileage, and tell us what brand of tyres you have"
"Ok, and then where do we need to bring the car so it can be checked?"
"You don't. We'll deliver the new M.O.T. along with the rest of the insurance documents. Bye!"

I must admit that I was particularly puzzled by the brand of tyres being deemed essential information, while a small detail like the depth of tread was not. And whether the brakes work.

I used to know somebody in Scotland who would offer a similar service, which of course I never used...

My car would easily pass its MOT, but why bother wasting half a day when I don't have to?
