Very good game this afternoon. Was played on the academy pitch, and although the weather before the game was bad, kick off brought out the best sun which looked as if it was difficult to deal with as the players were struggling to see anything. Barnsley played well and i would say they deserved to win. Nathan Jarman and Michael Coulson play very well together up front. Jarman scored the first from 20 yards after a great run and pass by Robbie Williams and the second was scored by Coulson after Jarman crossed finely with the left foot. Coulson should have perhaps scored at least one more, Jarman again supplying his side kick in the second half. Tony McParland looked disinterested all game and rarely kept posession, this eventually resulting in his substitution. Both teams could have won a game in which Barnsley just edged and overall it was a very entertaining match. Barnsley Letheran Harban, Potter, Meynell, Smith McParland, Tonge, Wroe, Williams Coulson, Wroe Subs - McGrory, Loukes, Beevor, Frost, Waggett MOM - Nathan Jarman - worked very hard until the final whistle, also showed some good touches and through balls. Chavtastic
2-2 From Main Site BARNSLEY 2 (Jarman, Coulson) STOKE CITY 2 (Thomas, Potter OG) STOKE City came from behind to snatch a point from an at times entertaining and keenly fought second string clash at Oakwell. The visitors took advantage of some hesitant Barnsley defending to steal the lead with 12 minutes on the clock as Keith Thomas raced onto Peter Sweeney's pass before lobbing the ball over Kyle Letheren although there was more than a suspicion of offside about the goal. Barnsley were behind for less than 60 seconds as virtually straight from the kick off, Robbie Williams strode forward through midfield before playing in Nathan Jarman, who coolly beat Ryan Mullan. Jarman turned creator on 24 minutes as he took on Dale Tonge's pass before finding a fine centre which gave Michael Coulson the simplest of finishes from close range. It should have been three four minutes later as Anthony McParland's free kick caused problems but somehow Tonge managed to lash the ball wide of a virtual open goal from just four yards. Stoke came out flying after the break and levelled things on 49 minutes when Darren Bunt swung a dangerous ball into the area and it struck Barnsley defender Luke Potter full in the chest before bouncing into the net. It was the home side who had the best chances after that with Coulson twice and McParland going close to a winner although Thomas wasted a gilt-edged chance in the closing seconds as he broke free before shooting tamely at Letheren. BARNSLEY: Letheren, Harban, Smith (Loukes 59), Meynell, Potter, Williams (McGrory 45), Tonge, Wroe, McParland (Beevor 70), Jarman, Coulson. Subs: Frost, Waggett. STOKE CITY: Mullan, Parsons, Hazley, Whitley, Buxton, Robinson, Garrett (Bunt 45), Brammer, Thomas, McCormick, Sweeney (Curley 20 (Doyle 70)). Subs: Ryan, Pointon.
RE: Tony McParland He refused to go out on loan to Northampton, claiming he did not want to drop down the divisions. Cos league to is SO much lower than the feckin pontin's league
RE: Tony McParland He had a torrid yesterday ... and Northampton are in League 1 now aren't they, I don't think he refused them last year. Apparently he also refused to go to Wycombe for family reasons. Don't think his contract will be renewed. Does anyone have a list of the players that are up in the summer (contracts expiring) thanks in advance
RE: Tony McParland Whats the problem with this lad? always trains on his own, he also looks very poor when he comes on and looks as if he couldnt care less.
