Should be out any time soon.P.H was meeting the players for talks today. Announcment likely in the next 24/48 hours I would think.
Thought I'd heard Thursday 11th May somewhere for retained list announcement but can't remember where I heard that. Wonder who will man the phones if as he's said Hecky's in the States on holiday without his phone.? Probably be Barry Taylor with a big tin of Fox's biscuits.!!!
Changes to how retained lists were to be drawn up were made after cases involving George Eastham and Bosman led to challenges through the courts. As I understand it clubs are a liberty to publish a list showing those players they are prepared to retain for the next season. The players then have the choice to accept the terms they are being offered or ask to be made available for transfer. I guess those who do not feature in Hecky's plans will have been seen and given a reason as to why he is releasing them. Players who are already in contract for a further one or two years are at liberty to stay or of course request a move elsewhere. Aidy White, Josh Scowen, Ryan Williams, Jack Cowgill, Callum Evans and Marley Watkins are all at the end of their contracts. Hecky has said he wants to keep them ( Josh and Marley) but "will not be held to ransom" and is planning for next season probably in the event they both will not be with us. If they do stay he's quoted as saying "that will be a bonus."
Players we want to keep. We'll release a list E.G Offers have been made to - Scowen Watkins Williams Players been released - White Evans
The only two we will try and keep are surely Scowen and Watkins, that many of us expect both to leave. Evans won't ever make it and White/Williams are injured too often. Think when our retained list comes out it will be one of the most predictable in recent memory.
They've been part and parcel of the game for yonks. I remember a Coach we had in the Sunday League in Donny he'd been a pro and also played in the old Midland League ( most Clubs reserve teams played in them) in the 60's who treated the Club as though we were professional. At the end of the season he would pin a retained list up on the Club notice board. We had a reyt team. Every player had either played pro soccer or Midlands or Yorkshire League at the very least. Won everything on offer including County FA Cup five seasons on the trot so his methods worked cos everybody wanted to play for him. We signed Henry Smith a goalie from Woolley Colliery. He went on to play for Heart of Midlothian for many a season. Great keeper and a massive Reds fan.
