A number of Man Utd fans look back on Jose Mourinho's reign compared to his time at Chelsea, as disappointing at best and a couple I know, insist that compared to Sir Alex he was a failure at United although given the latters record , quite a number of Managers would have a lot on to even get near what he achieved. Just read that the Clubs accounts show a severance payment of £19.6 million to Jose and the staff that left with him. He's now being paid a sizeable wedge as a football pundit in Russia, so he's not short. Spoke to a lad today who is a season ticket holder at Old Trafford and he says that in his view Jose and his staff are being rewarded for failure. Anybody agree with that.?
Both parties entered in to a contract, both were happy at the outset. Reward for failure is one way of stating the cost of cancelling the contract. For every Hourihane there’s a Donovan
Not really a reward, he was going to get that money had he stayed. I also dn't really think he failed, his squad wasn't much better than Arsenal or Chelsea, and way behind Spurs, Liverpool and City.
I think it's more likely that the owners and CEO will have done simple calculations to ongoing devaluation of the brand versus the cost of the payoff. That's corporate football these days, I'm afraid. I wonder what, if anything we paid to Jose "Today is going to be a beautiful day" Morais?
Man Utd broke a contract between them as a result they had to pay up. Football employment is not like the rest of us, they are employed on fixed term contracts where as we are not.
You have to wonder though if he would have been a failure if the players actually played when he was in charge.
Ive a feeling that we had a performance clause so that in case of a relegation his contract was terminated - the fact he was sacked before I even got back to the M1 when leaving Derby supports that in my view
