In terms of the salary cap, "Any contract entered into on or prior to today’s vote will be capped at an agreed divisional average until that contract expires" so say sunderland have renewed a contract for 1 player, for 30k P/W that takes them over the 2.5m does that mean he now earns the average of say 10k? Surely they should say i've not agreed to this salary, im off?
That's going to hit some clubs hard. £2400 max per week assuming a 20-man squad. It's a good time to be a Championship side, I suppose!
Absolutely crazy the salary caps are too low. Makes the jump from league one to championship too bigger gap! Especially if the salary cap in the championship is going to be in the region of £18m+. it’s a good job we managed to stay in the championship.
I understand, and agree with a wage cap, but £2.5 million is very low. Our wage bill was over £8 million last season, in League One.
I don't think it would effect the salary of the player, but the amount of the salary cap that player takes up. So if we had been relegated, and taken the whole squad to league 1 with us on their existing contracts, the wage bill would be 7m (or whatever it is), but the salary cap value of the contracts would be 2.5m
A lot of that in rugby when their salary cap first came in. As well as separate contracts for players within community departments.
I think this means in terms of calculating the clubs salary expenditure, so Sunderland still pay the £30k to the player but when the EFL are working out their expenditure it only gets counted as £10k.
Absolutely fantastic news: here's hoping Wednesday get relegated and spend a few seasons down there with a level playfield.
Said it other week this ruling is bent. It's fabricated by lovers of the big clubs to make the gap bigger and make it harder for the small clubs to become elite. First step on the way to a closed house and franchise system. They ought to go back to what they did in the early nineties and stop promotion from the National leagues if clubs don't meat the necessary criteria.
Horrible decision and not fair on clubs. How can Sunderland with the cash/crowds they have be punished by having the same budget as for example Gillingham? Salary cap should be a percentage of your annual turnover instead of one amount fits everyone. That way it would be in the best interests of the clubs to work at improving their revenue streams so they can pay more on wages.
Chansiri will offer players add ons in the form of shares in a stadium he has recently acquired for himself.
In time though players will have to fall in line or be on the dole. I'd have thought it illegal to put a cap on a persons earnings?
Wonder what the consequences are over spending over £2.5m on salaries, im sure if its a couple of thousand £££ then bigger clubs will just pay the fine
Great making poor teams poorer. When they do get promoted theyll lose their players and back down they go. I would be peed if we were down there still as we would be over the cap already
