Sam Winnall Interview with the boys on the Barnsley Podcast:

    - Best memory was Walsall second goal
    - Knew they would win the final at Wembley vs Millwall
    - Said a lot happened behind the scenes, felt club weren't trying hard enough to keep the players around; thats when he made decision to leave
    - Admits he was the biggest "diva" during his time
    - Best player he played with was Conor

Good interview to be fair and definitely put a slight different perspective on him for me...

On another note: this podcast is brilliant on Ifollow. One of the best things on there, interviews with ex-players and current players every other week. If any of you haven't had a listen, definitely do.

My best memory of Winnall was when he picked up that stuffed pepper pig, priceless

Was he asked about the photo of him signing his contract on the day Rimmo got buried? It was that what annoyed a lot of fans, not him leaving us because plenty have done that and come back to a good hand. Should just be honest that he left for life changing money instead of hinting at disharmony.

First off, glad you enjoy the show. We’ve moved it to fortnightly but made it longer. This allows for better planning and more guests.

It’s on iFollow, but not behind the pay wall.

As for Sam, I can’t say too much but we’ve allowed him his say, because why not. However, the lad forced a move no matter what he says. As did his mate who he refers to. And I mean forced. But I’ll leave it there.

    Those days are over.

Realistically it's not possible for anyone who's doesn't know what happenend to pass judgement. All I will say is if he did force a move then the club should have come out and given the details and shame the lad. All we know for certain is he was a hell of player for us. We are also led to believe he left for a very poor fee. As you say hopefully those days are over and we would be able to stand up to players in the future.

Really enjoyed the show good work.

I think we were pretty clear the day it was announced.

    https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2...s-sale-of-sam-winnall-to-sheffield-wednesday/

However, there are two sides to stories, and we’ve given him a right to reply.

Never should it be forgot that he gave 100% when a Red, and in my lifetime (and in my opinion) he’s the best goal scorer I’ve seen. I’d take him back in an instant. But the lad, as he admits in the podcast himself, is a massive diva.

    I’ve another word for diva...

Call him whatever you like, he knew where the net was and he was visibly improving during the season he left. He might have been a bad apple who unsettled the squad, but it wasn't half as unsettling as the vacuum created when he left, which continues to this day.

Does it start with the same two letters?

It's not that clear is it. Reading between the lines possibly but taken at face value of what is said there. Technically did Hourihane not do the same thing? Didn't want to stay and would have run his contract down.
As I say it's clear the difference in the way the 2 behaved. And I'm not defending Sam, it was a bad time. But the club came out of it looking terrible in my opinion. If Sam did a lot more than just state a strong desire to leave this should have been told. I don't understand why bfc would protect him.

Probably handled poorly on both sides. I accept keeping him would have been more trouble than letting him go. As I said without knowing all the details we are left to trust the club.

I can't really allow myself to speak freely on the subject any further.

I'll release a book one day. I've enough content in 18 months to leave folk's mouths gaping.

    I'll make a fortune.

*Would still be just one man's opinion, though. There's no right or wrong in all this.

Always lessons to be learned. I'm hopeful things like that are unlikely to occur in the future.

Kinel, how good does that sound?

Bring on January. (how good does that sound?)

I'm always gobsmacked at the amount of abuse ex-players get, when only a short time earlier they were God's gift. I thought we all knew by now that badge-kissing means nothing, that very few players wear Everton pyjamas for life, and that loyalty is a one way street. Players are just employees, no more, no less. They come and they go.

I was disappointed to see Sam leave, but only cos he knew where the goal was. The fact that he forced the move means nothing to me. The fact that he went to a local rival is neither here nor there. The clash between the contract signing and Rimmo's funeral was just one of those unfortunate coincidences that life chucks out to wind people up.

I'll admit I laughed at the Peppa Pig incident, but only because it was unexpected and genuinely funny, not out of spite. He got his own back by scoring and fair play to him. All water under the bridge...

    Happen to agree.

Watch every goal celebration when he scored. Looked like he'd single handedly won the World cup and as for that stupid celebration at the wonder goal he scored against us. His stupid celebrations annoyed me when he was with us.

    Horrible narcissistic.

Conor left with dignity in tact, including playing and scoring in his last game despite knowing he was leaving.

As winnalls record post barnsley suggest he ain't anywhere near the player he thinks he is. Just a diva who isn't wanted in dressing rooms and who will just be a forgotten journeyman for rest of his career
