Im not a nervous flyer but I think I would have found that a bit stressful I must admit
Dont know much about Russian Airlines but a company I worked for in the '90's did some work with the Russians and they forbade us taking internal flights. My only visit I flew BA to Moscow then got a train to Minsk 12 hour journey instead of 1.5 hour flight. Dont know how their safety is these days though.

The airlines who fly internationally (including Russia, who are a subsidiary or Aeroflot) are absolutely fine. They use modern planes, properly maintained to international standards, ditto their pilots. As for the ones who don't fly internationally, I wouldn't go anywhere near them. I try to avoid flying internally here unless I have no other choice.

Not tempting fate or ‘owt, but I did 14 internal Russian flights in 10 days back in March, and currently about to board flight no. 7 of god knows how many on this trip; apart from a few moments getting 16 flight cases and boxes through check-in, we’ve had no issues yet. Aeroflot has the newest fleet in the world.

Tupolevs and Ilyushins. Great planes, but I'm glad they've all switched to Boeings and Airbuses these days!

The only major issue I remember Aeroflot having was back in 1994 where the relief captain allowed his two kids to come up to the flight deck and take turns at the controls. The son I believe managed to disengage the autopilot and crashed the plane but I flew with the them to Beijing in 2009 and the safety was exemplary.

With their bad luck both on and off the pitch at least they know that FIFA stands for football isn't for Arabs.

Yep, back in the glory days of the 90's,when child pilots and drunk cabin crew were the norm! As you quite rightly say, their safety now is exemplary. To be honest their reputation was so atrocious that they didn't really have much choice other than to sort themselves out from top to bottom if they wanted to survive
