Brilliant watch that tonight, top respect for those that took part, especially the 2 young lads who were on. An awful condition which affects probably more peuple that you realise, a think most of us have fears over talking in public, I’d class my self as a confident person but put me up in front of a quiet crowd and I turn to jelly!!

A great watch though with some brilliant results at the end

Brought back memories for me when i was at school. I suffered from a terrible stammer. Used to get picked on for it. I still get it sometimes now at 38 when talking to people either in person or on the phone. It's hard to explain what happens to your voice when it does happen. Simple things like asking a waiter for something when at a restaurant is really difficult for me.

There was a similar School in York. After several weeks therapy the people with the stammers would be taken
into the City where they would stand on a soapbox near the Shambles and give a three minute talk to members
of the public. Before each speaker did their presentation, they showed a video on a large screen as to how they
had been before undergoing therapy. It was a very moving experience for them, their family, friends and the passers
by who had stopped to listen. It took a lot of courage to do what they did and I honestly felt privelidged to join in the celebration of their success.

A wouldn’t class my self as having a stammer or stutter but there’s certain words which I will avoid using just beccause I know I’d knacker it up....people who battle this on a daily basis must be awful for them, kids and some adults are rude and ignorant.....brought a bit of a tear to my eye towards the end of the programme

I'm also afflicted, but then that said I've grown out of it somewhat. Yes it is an awful condition, was bullied over it at school - didn't do as well as I could have done - partially at least because of it. Nowadays I still have to pause and think what I say - this does help. Public speaking is or can be daunting at the best of times and it can be mastered if one is trained to do it.

I missed the programme - will make an effort now to watch it.

From first meeting the wife until recently, she never used the word no. Nowadays she uses it effortlessly and too bloody frequent

I didn't watch it because it would bring too many painful memories back to me. My son could talk the hind leg off a donkey at 3 but when he started infants school a stammer started to develop gradually and it got really bad at one point. It was awful to watch him growing up with this because I knew he would deliberately choose not to speak in certain situations when he definitely had something to contribute and I also knew he would get bullied because of it. Thankfully, unless I was never made aware of it by him, I don't think that ever materialised to any great extent.

He had the usual NHS speech therapy classes etc. but nothing seemed to work and we even took him down to the Michael Palin centre in London a few times to see if they could help him. That is a wonderful place run by wonderful people.

Thankfully, he just seemed to grow out of it, I would say he's probably 95% 'back to normal' now but because he's no longer stressed about it he seems to be able to manage the odd blip himself to the point where you just wouldn't know he ever stammered unless you knew him as a child.

He's 21 now and confidently speaks and delivers presentations at Uni etc. and wants to be a Uni Lecturer when he gets all the necessary qualifications so he definitely isn't scared of 'public speaking' anymore.

It's such a relief because I thought he was going to be a stammerer all his life and would have to deal with all the issues that would bring for him in the workplace, forming relationships etc.

My heart goes out to parents of children who stammer because you just feel so helpless but I suppose my story goes to show that it's not always a lifetime condition. Good luck to anyone dealing with it as we speak.
