    Why is it such a controversial statement to say that a millionaire shouldn't get things free?

    It tends to cost more to do the means testing, you can't means test in a public toilet, if you means test in a school by only giving them to free school meals kids then they have to be kept somewhere where not everyone can access and it creates stigma but if it was free for everyone to just pick up without having to go up to an adult and ask for it then it wouldn't. The bill says that they will be available in public buildings, how do you propose that someone proves their means testedness, do you have to carry a poverty card to get a free tampon? You don't have to carry one to get free toilet paper. They're not free in shops etc. just in the toilets where you get free use of toilet paper, water and soap i.e. basic toilet necessities which a tampon or sanitary towel definitely is.

    I'll be honest I didn't really read it through properly and thought that they would be free in a prescription sort of way that you'd pick up a supply from a chemist or shop.

    Free in toilets etc makes sense but what about when you haven't gone out to a public toilet is the idea that you'd then have to buy your regular amount?

    Yes. Just see it like toilet paper. You buy that normally for use in your own home and can't get it free on prescription. If you go to a toilet in a pub, restaurant, school etc. then you don't get charged to use toilet paper. If you really couldn't afford toilet paper you'd either try and time all your trips to the toilet to a free public toilet or at work or go to a food bank or start using less convenient options (e.g. rags). The same principle will now apply in Scotland with period products.

    That makes sense. That should have always happened to be honest and I know we've had it for a while at Oakwell. I would go one further though and actually give out prescriptions for them means tested for all.

    I think it's a great idea and good on Scotland. One question I have though.... aren't women ahem... different sizes? Will they have to supply a variety? Or is it the pads that are different sizes?

    I have a daughter heading quickly towards puberty and I have no idea whatsoever!!
