Can't remember season tickets when I was a lad. Just wondered when they were first introduced.

My mate had one since back in the early 80s I think. His parents used to buy him one for his birthday in July.

My College lecturer in 67-68 had one. He would have had about 15 minutes to get down to the ground. I remember one year we finished at 8 and he got there just before half time. I use to bunk off early and lose pay even though my college day was longer than my normal working day.

I can beat all of you, so far.

I got my first one for the 1966/67 season, It was a junior one and I was escorted up to the stand (there was only one then!) by the Club Secretary to choose my seat. I thought sitting right next to the Directors's Box would be a decent view, so I chose one of those.

It cost me three old pounds, when pound notes were worth something :) I still have it but it's in the loft with my massive programme collection, and I'm not going up there right now to dig it out. Some time I will though, and will scan it and post a picture.

Could you buy season tickets for the terraces back then, or just the West Stand upper?

I can remember as a kid thinking it was a different world up there in the seats.

Suppose it was back then eh?

I don't honestly know - maybe you could but with gates below 3,000 often enough there won't have been many takers. I think I just fancied going up in the world for a season, and getting the elevated view. I was just turning 14 that season so was able to afford the ticket from my paper rounds.

It was a desperate season, playing wise though. There was no post-World Cup feel-good-factor at Oakwell that year! This is why it amuses me when I read on here all the negative comments from fans who have only been following the Reds for a few years (ie less that 20 years). Watching Barnsley now is like watching Real Madrid in comparison to that team in the early to mid-sixties. It came good though with players like Jimmy Robson, Barrie Thomas and Johnny Evans lighting up the pitch, but the seventies saw a dramatic slump once more.

I renewed my ticket last week for what will be my 50th season as a Barnsley fan, the first being the 1968/69 season.
My late Father bought me my first season ticket for me as a junior for the 1969/70 season in what would now be classed as the West Stand Upper, Pontefract Road Wing.
