No, but it would seem that it is a pre-requisition. There appears to be very few success stories when Govt hands over Public run services to the private sector.

The big question I have here is why? Why, if we have public paid armed forces able to do the testing, are we instead paying a private company to do it? What are the freed up military personnel now doing?

Another example of late stage capitalism . It's run out of things to make money from so starts to canibalize state assets such as the above . Expect the MOD to pay more for the upkeep of its testing sites over the coming years .

The bigger question I have is why given G4S seem to continually screw up they keep get given government contracts
I dont know about you but if I buy something from a manufacturer and it doesnt work very well next time I dont buy from the same one
well maybe I would give one chance but not keep going back time after time

I'm surprised, I thought G4S was the go-to beneficiary of the last PM (isn't her husband on the board or works for a major shareholder or something?)

Yep the same company ( G4S) that failed at providing security for the London Olympics and then had to draft in the military to sort out the train crash, after being awarded the multi pound contract. You would think that company wouldn't even be on the list of bidders, unbelievable

Are they cheap though - where is your evidence to support that
The way government awards contracts these days makes it difficult to know the true costs but nothing I have seen leads me to believe G4S are actually cheap - and thats before you add in the additional costs of their failures

I believe that was a false rumour but it wouldn't surprise me.

Well I guess I have no evidence but I’m assuming that an elected government in a modern democratic country tender correctly. When in fact it’s probably all down to the brown envelope brigade.

How much evidence do you need that your assumption is incorrect - Contract tracing App, ferry companies that have no ferries, PPE that doesnt work, Loads of complaints from companies that made medical equipment that they were never even replied to but contracts given to companies with little or no experience - I could go on

We are probably third, behind Greece & Spain for corruption in the issuing of Government contracts. We have centre right governments in France & Germany that wouldn't go anywhere near any of this.

I personally think the government have made a complete hash of the whole situation and I don’t trust them to run a bath!
Ever wondered why hospitals are full of Dyson fans? Why pay £50 when you can pay £300 from a benefactor!

We get told at every general election that Labour would bankrupt the country. Yet the tories continue to waste money on contracts that benefit their cronies.

I don't have an issue with switching to the private sector in principle. I assume that the army were brought in as an emergency measure and at some point this was always going to happen. The problems seem to arise from poor transition planning. That and choosing a company with a less than glowing record.

He moaned that the pound was too strong so made trade difficult, then bogs off to Singapore. Cheers for your help ‘Sir’ James!
