Two dead competitors. I hope you were all 'entertained', and if you were 'lucky' - enjoy your winnings. Disgraceful.

It was a great race its very sad that 2 horses died but I dont think that we should seriously be calling for the race to to scrapped

there is a big difference in my opinion between accidental deaths of Animals doing what they have been bread and trained to enjoy doing and any deliberate animal cruelty

    Good arguments both

And by utilising them I propose we bring back slavery.

Far more than 300,000 people have owned slaves and it has a tradition stretching back much longer than 200 years. In fact it has been going on for thousands of years!

I think I'll get one tomorrow. Preferably the sex version.

but do 300,00+ people in the UK own a slave today? No, so your point is pretty much null and void?

Agreed. The debate rages over here every year during the Calgary Stampede. There are at least 1 or 2 horse deaths every year during the Chuckwagon races, which is terribly sad. Every year there are calls (from a few) for the races to be scrapped. However, these are horses that live fantastic lives, trained as thoroughbreds (the ones that pull the wagons) and the other ones the outriders ride would / could otherwise have been sent to the slaughter house already. While no-one wants to see horses die in competition, I really don't think that banning the chuckwagon races or the Grand National would be good for the vast majority of race-fit horses.

Every year it's the same, shoot a horse just for having a broken leg! Although the footage I saw from Cheltenham, that course is even worse.

Maybe they should look at reducing the number of horses that compete and the height and amount of jumps.

    That isn't even an argument!
Though I would not condone football pitches with 10 foot ditches around them, if that helps.

When they are no longer fit to race most end up at the slaughter house anyway as they have served their purpose. Some are shipped out to the Arabs where they are virtually raced to death.

"Perspective. 20 horses will die racing this year. 18,000 footballers over the UK will die or require NHS treatment" - quote from someone on Twitter
