With all the matches now being available to exiles like me, Saturday's match was one I was particularly looking forward to. The fact that it fell on my missus's birthday shouldn't even have mattered with it being a morning kick-off. But then disaster strikes. She announces that as the weather forecast is absolutely glorious, she wants to spend the weekend at her parents' country cottage, a mere five hours drive from St Petersburg. Usually I'd be well up for a weekend of drinking, saunas and swimming in lakes, but the complete lack of internet there poses an obvious problem. She's already there, so the question is - do I fake a flat tyre in order to watch the match? Knowing full well that my arrival very late on Saturday evening would definitely put somewhat of a dampener on proceedings...... She's not turning 25 or 40 or owt important like that, so I do have a little bit of leeway.
Well no sympathy from me - Once the Mrs knew I wasnt planning to drive up to Sheffield to pay £32 to watch us get kicked off the pitch she decided we both need to go shopping to Gunwharf Keys - probably be able to catch the audio commentary on my phone
Just say "Normally you know I'd be up for a weekend of beer, saunas & swimming in the lakes but it's the MASSIVE game against Sheff Utd this weekend! The one I've been waiting all year for! But if it means that much to you, I'll set off down as soon as it's finished because that's how much I love you babe!" That should just about cover it!
That's what you said when I had to decline going to Liverpool away in the Prem due to my nan's 70th birthday party!
That's true. Though I'm assuming Russian terrestrial TV isn't one of the stations showing it, unfortunately.
