Sitting on a bed in the bay Looking out towards Raaaavenscarrr. I left my home in Barnsley, headed for the Whitby Bay...
Room 1, 2 or 3? I'm assuming room 1, because of the view. If you're in room 3, whatever you do don't go to the loo in the night.......
If it's still there, there's a device called a "macerator" in the toilet in the en-suite bathroom belonging to room 3. It's there to allow an en-suite to be installed with no access to a soil pipe. You can imagine what its function is. So far so good. The problem comes when you flush the loo after an attempted silent pee in the dead of night. The macerator switches on automatically. It sounds like a space shuttle blasting off, and wakes up everyone in the hotel. If it's your first time in the room and you don't know it's there, it also scares you to death. Along with the screeching seagull on the window ledge.
Love that part of the world. Decent chippy there too. Great rocky beach just south of Ravenscar called Hayburn Wyke, that has a waterfall going on to the beach.
There's a great pub with accommodation there, the Hayburn Wyke Hotel. The beach, complete with waterfall, is only accessible on foot through a wood, about half a mile walk. What a fantastic spot!
Yes, I've had a drink in there a few times & camped outside once. They used to get some decent bands playing occasionally as well. I love that part of the coast & North Yorks Moors. I rarely go into Scarborough TBH, I prefer quieter spots.
I love it too, and I've made it part of my www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk walk. I've done the 4 day section between Filey and Saltburn several times, and it's a magnificent walk. There's a good bus service along the entire stretch, so you can do it from a single base. There are loads of seabirds, a pair of peregrines, seals, countless other birds and animals to enjoy. And pubs. From Filey heading north, my favourites are:- Star, Filey Old Scalby Mills, Scarborough Hayburn Wyke Hotel Bay Hotel, Robin Hood's Bay Numerous Whitby pubs Stag, Sandsend Royal, Runswick Bay Numerous Saltburn pubs. It's a great short break active holiday.
Nice one, I've visited a few of those. i've looked at your website before, but there's a lot more on it that last time i looked. I do a fair bit of walking & a bit of mountain biking, although that is declining a bit as I have a smaller car now & I can't be arsed with a rack, as i live in a small flat & already have too much clobber. I just tend to bike locally, or hire one at a dedicated mountain biking venue, which is a lot easier. Was walking up in Teesdale on Friday. I dragged my girlfriend round a 13 mile circuit in 27 degree heat. She's still talking to me, so looks to be a keeper.
Magnificent walking country! The stretch of the Pennine Way between Middleton-in-Teesdale and Dufton is just about the best bit of the entire route. Anyone who hasn't been to High Cup Nick should drop everything and go up there now. Well, wait until the thunderstorms have passed! I'm doing the Coast to Coast walk in September with a friend, it will be my 3rd time. Another magnificent walk, over half of it in Yorkshire. Our county is a paradise for walkers.
Yes, given the COVID19 epidemic & lack of money I'm going no further than 100 mile radius of Leeds till the situation improves. I'm lucky the Meanwood Trail pretty much starts at the back of my flats & I can do a brilliant 12 mile circular walk, with only a little bit of road walking. Barnsley is pretty well placed too TBH for walks.
I did the Barnsley Boundary Walk a couple of weeks back, 73 miles, 6 days. Unless you've done it you won't believe how beautiful it is. I'll dig out a few of photos...
My dad proposed to my mum at the Bay Hotel. I had a pint there about three weeks ago. I Love Robin Hoods Bay.
