Just got the letter from them that tells me a file containing some data about me was nicked in May 2017

Nice of them to finally get around to warning me.
I particularly liked their advice to consider going ex directory - that's really handy considering they gave away my phone number
Oh and their kind offer for me to give them even more information to use their credit services for a year free

Its particularly annoying as they are a company I have never had any dealings with - all the data they have is data provided by banks insurance companies etc when doing credit checks on me.

good article though not much help on The Register if anyone else on here is affected

Check your emails and usernames on https://haveibeenpwned.com/

And yes, it’s a legit / safe site.

My details have been leaked by at least 6 sites dating back 2008. Just make sure you change your passwords frequently and don’t use the same password for all you accounts.

If you register on the above site, it lets you know as soon as your email leak has been detected. Unfortunately, that may have been several years ago.
