    Just about any other part of the public sector would have been rebranded, taken over, merged or just reorganized to within an inch of non-existence for one of those listed.

    I've said for years that the name is tarnished and can never recover.

    I'd suggest what they did in Scotland - they amalgamated forces to create police Scotland.

    Given the West Yorkshire chief Constable has been overseeing South Yorkshire, why not amalgamate those two along with North Yorkshire - the only trouble being humberside police covers East Yorkshire and north Lincs. Police Yorkshire. Or just Yorkshire Police. Has a ring to it, and it would be a good excuse to pension off those at the top of South Yorkshire quietly and change the ethos.

    There not that good i had my window smashed at home so phoned police was told an officer would be round to see me in a few days 3 years later still waiting

    Right with you up to the LOL - its really not funny there are clearly issues in the running of SYP - they must have good individual officers but they are lost in the overall incompetence of the force itself.

    Still it could be worse at least they aren't routinely armed and so far they haven't resorted to shooting innocent civilians in the pajamas like they do in Minneapolis

    I don't believe for a minute that most individuals that join the police decide to be crap at the job, or are unable to do the job competently (although always some exceptions). They are either underfunded so do not have the resources to respond properly, or the system and leadership is preventing them from doing the role as we would like. I suspect it has historically been the first, but more recently been compounded with the second.
