I'm not saying it's fine to abuse him but it's absolutely due to lifestyle choices. There's no fat gene or metabolic issue that makes people fat. If you're fat it's because you ingest more calories than you expend.
While this is true, some people do have a propensity to put on weight more than others, whereas there are people at the other end of the spectrum who can't gain any despite wishing to. Just the way it is.
He should be ashmaed for letting himself get like that. I know i was, and you then need to be strong enough to do something about it. Or everyone can be nice and tell people they are fine they way they are and watch them have a heart attack in their 40s. As I say people have said to me you look at lot better now, but they didn't say I looked terrible before which they obviously think. It's just taboo to point out for some reason. I got fat because I was greedy and lazy. I honestly wish people had shamed me into losing the weight sooner. Even my wife never really said anything to me about it. It's not like it's a suprise when you get that big, it doesn't just happen overnight it's a gradually process you have plenty of time to change. Maybe my views on this are tainted by personal experience but it has always got to me how many people are complimentary once you lose the weight but no one said have you considered you are going to eat your way into a early grave.
That may be the case & well done for losing weight, you are probably going to live longer & will be less likely to get diabetes, cancer, etc Hurling personal abuse at people for what they look like is inexcusable though in my opinion.
Personal abuse is too much but rightly or wrongly it will always come with a football crowd. Laughing at his run across the pitch I just couldn't have stopped myself if I wanted to. I found it funny if that makes me a bad person so be it. Coupled with the irony of his job, looking after players well being. He played up to it briefly in front of the ponty, then I think he got a little angry further along. As you say it probably is unacceptable and I can imagine inside he felt awful, i know the circle depression from being fat then eating some more. Can't judge or make assumptions about anyone for being fat other than one thing. How they got fat. It's simple science. The more I discuss it the more I do feel sorry for the guy, I'd love to meet him and ask him if he wants to change.
I couldn’t help but smile at the irony and wonder how the players feel when he is giving them advice and instructions. I wouldn’t have thought anything if I’d have seen him in any other context. I certainly didn’t join in the shouting or chanting.
He's a physiotherapist though, not a dietician? He may advise on weight gain and how it affects joints etc but this isn't likely to be an issue for players. Unless Akinfenwa has signed.
I'm sure your life is on track. Maybe you can help the guy? Throwing abuse? WRONG. My advice would be to say, if you had a problem, help others, don't throw stones at them.
He's obviously good at his job . Southend are a professional football club at a decent level and wouldn't employ a second rate physio . He doesn't run marathons for a living, he's a bloody physio for God's sake . Good luck to him .
Seems people don't know the difference between a fitness coach, dietician and physiotherapist. Physio is there to assess and treat injuries and rehabilitate, not to advise on food intake and lead by example. I could see the "irony" if he was one of the first two roles, but he's not.
Wrong to make fun of the guy. Alright he is overweight but could be a top bloke to those who know him. Did take a long time sorting 'injured' players out but that's modern football. Piss taking doesn't help anybody.
I thought it was hilarious but yet I felt sorry for him at the same time especially when I realised he was going to have to walk past the Ponty end. I hate that everyone’s offended by everything these days. He’s chosen to take a job in an environment where he treats players in front of thousands of fans every week. He knows he’s going to get stick for been overweight & knows that it’s in jest.
