Might be a bit thick here but what do you mean by Barnsley Gen? Is it the Barnsley District General Hospital or just anywhere in general over Barnsley? Where is it flying from?

Best sound ever from that Merlin engine. Used to love hearing them and the Lancaster when I was at Coningsby
Agree. Heard 'em a few time when younger at air shows, the last time (also many years ago was a bank holiday fair at Crich tramway museum in Buxton when a Spitfire did several low passes. You could actually feel the vibrations from the low frequencies passing through your body and on the ground. The 'Spit' and the Concord, for me, are the two most beautiful aircraft ever built. Pity the former function of the former was as a killing machine.
I suppose you already know this , but the spit was built in the 30’s to win a seaplane race called the Schneider trophy and was developed into a fighter plane for the war.
I remember playing a match on pit field on Laithes Lane at Athersley years ago. The Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane flew over low on their way somewhere, what a sound that was. Last year at Wentworth festival a Lancaster flew over and that was amazing.
Good job it was, though, as we'd all be living under occupation now and our lives would be very different
I made a point of being out to see this as I’d never seen one before. Brilliant. I’m not a “bucket list” sort of person but if I was this would have been on it!
And before somebody posts that was a mass killing machine, it actually did its job as a deterrent in the Cold War, part of the reason we are all still here. At Kennedy's request they were all put on stand-by during the Cuban missile crisis, in a way that the Russians would know it
Yep totally agree. Mosquito was the best WWII aircraft. What the yanks, Mountbatten and the government did with the TSR2 was an utter scandal. Having been on a Buccaneer squadron (Shiny 12) for a couple of years I like them too.
I’m a Buccaneer lover as well. Served on a missile trials unit 1985-88 at Boscombe Down. 31 JSTU was formed to trial the new Sea Eagle missile and the Buccaneer was the designated airframe tasked with delivering it into the side of enemy ships. Results were, let’s say, mixed....
