About 6 weeks ago I went for my usual over 40 check up, blood tests etc and the results came back.

My Cholesterol was high and due to my old man having his heart attack all those years ago and my brother, Mark, having a stroke at 40 I was just over the 10% risk group by 0.2%.

With this in mind I was advised by the doctor to go on a statin, Atorvastatin to cut down my cholesterol and lower my risk factor.

Ever since then I’ve felt absolutely fcukked. I’m going to bed at 10pm (normally a late night person) and I’m completely off boozing. I like a bottle of wine on a Friday, but I’m pigeon sipping a glass at best.

Work is a nightmare, at 10am I’m completely knackered and feel dizzy.

Just wondered if anyone else (I’ve found out that quite a few people take them) on here takes them and if it’s normal?

It’s properly making me feel like ****, because once you are on them that’s you for the rest of your life.

No idea re statins mate, but get your meat and animal protein intake reduced for a few months and see how you get on with your cholesterol.

Just said the same to the wife. Going to get in to the doctors this week to either change them or stop. This is the latest I’ve been up for weeks and it’s only because I’m making myself stay up.

I take Atorvastatins. I don’t have high cholesterol but as the Ramipril, Felodopine and Spironolactone we’re doing two thirds of **** all they asked me to try a statin.
Horrible. They make me breathless give me a tight chest and make it difficult to walk more then ten or so miles.
Going to knock them on the head.

I’ve tried that already. Cholesterol issues are or can be hereditary so no matter what you do it won’t impact it, apart from medical intervention.

Feel a bit trapped at the moment.

Also...your body can take a while to get used to any type of medication and may well settle down

    I thought statins were inert.
    That’s not the case.
So you have to try them over a few days and if they don’t suit then you call yer doctor for a different type.
    There’s loads to go at.

Worst experience I had was when I decided to try anti-depressants.
Tried 4 different types and they all had an adverse effect after just a few days - all of them sent me wappy daft.
So that’s a type of tablet I cannot take.

Creeps up on you mate. Thing is I’m only 43, I’m still a party animal at heart (go to techno festivals, DJ in Clubs etc) so don’t want to feel like this. I’m still reasonably fit, and was going to gym 4 times a week before this, the last month I’ve not been once, just not had the energy.

Following a heart attack a few years back I've been on atorvastatin, aspirin, ramipril and bisoprolol fumarate daily ever since. Have to carry a Gtn spray as well. Can't say I've had any side effects still on the booze ok and cycle 20 plus miles twice weekly without a problem. Think they just affect people differently.

True, it’s getting the right chemicals in the right dose that’s difficult

Was on Simvastatin for a few years then had muscle problems and thought I was going to be wheelchair bound. Stopped taking and problem went. Then saw doc who reluctantly changed me to Atorvastatin. Been ok since. See your doc again.

I had high blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol and for 12 years took Perindropril to control the hypertension
an aspirin to thin my blood and Simvastatin to regulate my cholesterol.

Due to my illness in 2014, I lost circa 6 stones in weight. At my last annual health check, they found that my
cholesterol levels were normal so I was told to stop taking the aspirin and the statin.

I personally had no side effects from taking the Simvastatin but they can affect different people in different ways.
As others have said TN, the best thing is to go back and see your GP to see if you can have a different brand.

I had a suspected mini stroke ( which bloody worried me) and the doc put me on atorvastatin.
I was opposed, as the father in law was put on them, and to be honest he went downhill very quickly...but I felt I had no option.
The good news is I have had no ill effects...whether they've done any good is impossible to tell, but they don't seem to have done any harm.
