Does he have to shoulder some blame for constantly trying to play out from the back when we are clearly not good enough for that style of game
That and playing his Austrian mates, picking people out of position, dragging players off after 20 minutes or at half time, lack of width etc etc
Well, he was laughing and smiling at the end during the “well played, congratulations, thanks for having us” period. In fact he looked like we’d won!
It will.be a big game for him in all fairness. As Danny Wilson always says, you have to enjoy these times in your footballing career.
No Steve. Liked his passion after the Brentford game but can’t take to what he’s doing. Understand it must be hard when everyone knows we need a decent striker but FFS why waste money on Fridge, Ritzy etc? Why constantly play lads out of position? Why constantly tinker with the line up? I could go on.......
Deserves backing by the board to get players he wants / needs . Great how he managed to keep us up last season , but like most managers he has his favourites and does make strange team selections at times etc
He clearly believes/believed they are good enough (and in fairness Frieser has only made 4 appearances so far, granted he's not exactly hit the ground running) but we moan when managers are unable to bring in who they want... When everyone is available the team almost picks itself and he wasn't changing it much last season certainly Same keeper. Same back 3 (Williams, Anderson, Sollbauer). Same wing backs (Ludewig and Ritzmaier). Same midfield (Mowatt, Styles, Woodrow). And until Brown left, same strikers (Brown and Chaplin) This season he's only changed it really for the 3 cup games (which you'd expect) and bringing in Helik and moving Williams wide against Reading, with plenty of people wanting that change. And has moved Woodrow back up top with Chaplin with Simoes or Thomas in behind Course its much easier to keep a winning team. So for now any changes will be to find that right combination
I think he's a very good coach, just like Robins, Heckingbottom and Stendel. The way the club is run frustrated the latter three, and more likely than not will eventually frustrate Struber. Give him the tools and he'll do the job.
He hasn’t clicked that clubs are aware of our playing across the back. And pressure us till we make the inevitable mistake. Chelsea and other clubs play out from the back but don't mess about When harassed. We still try to play ourselves out of trouble instead of getting shut when necessary.
I think you’re right to a certain extent, but don’t you sometimes think that when ‘underdogs’ get hammered and then scurry round for the victors shirts or clap them off or even ‘enjoy their night’ sharing the same grass as their esteemed opponents, it looks a bit “we’re not worthy and never were”
Not good enough, or still not quite comfortable in that system? We're much less direct than we were last season, so it might take us a bit of time to adjust. For 75 minutes against Middlesbrough it worked perfectly and they couldn't get near us. I think it'll work better against teams who don't press us as high, but we'll struggle against pressing teams, like Luton were. I think last night, it would have made more sense to play a similar style as to what we did at the end of last season, get the ball to Mowatt, Woodrow and Styles early. But as the players said last week, yesterday was a bonus game.
We are no stronger than last season that's for sure - and we stayed up by the skin of our teeth. We've downgraded Brown to Frieser who will need time to settle. We've re-signed Ludewig. We've brought in Hellik who will need time to settle. We've signed a lad from Liverpool who may be a world beater who we haven't seen yet and will need time to settle. If the board wish to keep hold of the manager then he has to be given the tools to do the job. Although the manager deserves cricitism too for how we set up last night.
