Has anyone been out today to any of the supermarkets? A family member needs to get our household some basics for the next week due to us all self isolating. Is it still carnage? Don't want them to have a wasted visit and put them at risk for nothing.
Queues outside most. Only allowing a limited number of people in at once. Stock seems to be available again, now the Numpties have stopped stockpiling.
Lidl at mapplewell. No more than 20 in the shop at one time. One in one out. Went this morning and the majority of shelves were well stocked and everyone calm and keeping to the rules the store has put in place.
Brakes Catering have now opened up to the public in form of a click and collect next day pick up. Based in Kinsley (next to hemsworth water park) https://www.brake.co.uk/food-shop
It's ok, just miss the peak times, a lot of stuff in Aldi and Morrisons now but still missing toilet roll and flour. 2m apart only at the tills, due to knobheads down the aisles.
I think people dwelling too long in the aisles will improve as people get used to where things are. There are a lot of people shopping for others and looking for items they don't usually buy. We've had to shop for the mother-in-law for the last 18 months, but getting stuff for my parents is a new thing. The first few times I tried to follow their shopping list, I was continually backwards and forwards squinting at the shelves.
Went to Wath Asda this morning. Quiet, lots of stuff in. Not too much eggs, pasta, handwash, but plenty of toilet rolls. Tesco Wath and Cortonwood Morrisons had big queues to get in, so didn't go inside, but will try again later. We don't need much though.
Wife telling me this morning that Sainsburys Wakefield have erected Perspex barriers at the check outs. Encouraging the use of cards instead of cash. Limiting the number of people in the store at any one time and urging shoppers to keep their distance. For now, you also don't have to pay a pound for a trolley. Regarding provisions, good stocks of the products she particularly was looking for and like others have said, the panic buying appears to have subsided which is good.
Mrs F has just been to Sainsbury's in Farnham this morning - first time we have been to a supermarket in 2 weeks - limiting the numbers but no queue when she went in at just after 11 but there was one when she cam out about 45 mins later. A good stock for most things and she got almost everything on the list just a couple of things missing but that happens on a normal shop
About 30 queuing at Morrisons Gainsborough, didn't join them but went down to Aldi. Half a dozen in queue for 5 minutes then remarkably quiet inside. It was like the film Stepford Wives where everybody gently pushing their trollies, no rush, no panic. Plenty of bog rolls, even the 24 pack, no shortage of fresh meat, bread, milk etc and even pasta for them as needs it ! No paracetamols though. They are scarce.
Went to co-op in Snaith this morning for bread and milk. Its only small but plenty of the basics including paracetamol but still no bog roll, sanitizer or disinfectant. Queued outside for 10 mins only letting 6 in at a time. I like to think that the panic is over and folk have realized that this is the new reality for a while. Cant imagine what the supermarkets will be like on a weekend though. Best avoided if you can.
