Has to be 4-4-2 and realistically if we play a midfield two I’m not sure Mallan is strong enough, Moncur reliable enough nor Knasmullner fit enough so I’d go Williams Gardner. Neither of the natural left backs fill me with any confidence, yids is the best left back and right back, and Cavare, if he keeps his head, is next best for me.

I think we should try sticking Toby Tyke in the nets. Will command the area better that Townsend.

Team I think Morais will pick
    Townsend
    Cavare Jackson Lindsay Pinillos
    Potts Williams Gardener
    Thiam Moore McBurnie

I'd have Davis in for Townsend
    Yiadom at left back
Moncur in for Williams (or Gardner - dont care which)
    Hammill instead of Thiam

There is an argument to change the system to one that suits the players we have even more and there is a break now to allow that to be worked on. We need our main goal threat in the penalty area not in the left back position defending our own box!. We also need to add some creativity and quality in the final third from midfield, not just industry. Assuming everyone is fit I would go with:-

    Davies

Yiadom (WB) Mills Pinnock Lindsey Fryers (WB)

    Williams Gardner Moncur

    McBurnie Moore

I would play Pinnock in the middle of the 3 as he is the best at defending our box. The width comes from the wing backs who have proven to be better going forward than defensively. If we play with natural wingers then we lose the creativity in midfield as would have to play Gardner and Williams.....plus it has proven to be too predictable. This system would get the best out of Moncur and we have others who can come in and do a similar job if he doesn't do it.

    That worked well at Villa!
The players had no idea how to play with a back 3/5 and I am not sure anything will have changed in the few weeks since then

I think I’d go with the exact same team.

I’d have Fryers & Hedges on the bench instead of Pearson & Mallan

Although I find it hard to be specific about the personnel (partly because I don`t think he has Isgrove and Hammill on his agenda) there has to be a change of system from the last few games or we will simply end up with the same result.
I think that with Bristol`s set up with at least one winger (Kent) the idea of wing-backs would effectively mean it would be a back 5 instead of a back 3.

I love those words “would get the best out of Moncur”

Only George Moncur can get the best out of George Moncur

Apart from Yiadom and Mcburnie the rest were selected by random number generation.

Considering nothing else is working I'd look at going back to 442 hammill and isgrove on the wings, moore and McBurnie in the middle and try and get the ball in the box. Maybe even Thiam on the right and swap when tired.
Not saying it would work but i give it a go.
I do not think it will happen though.

Whatever formation or line up mcburnie needs to be down the middle not on wing , our biggest goal threat is playing most of the game out wide , if he wants to keep moore starting line up needs to be 442

We didn't have the personnel available to play it at Villa.....no orthodox midfielder and Hecky played McCarthy as a centre half! It was Mallan and Moncur in midfield who offered no protection to defence and our best defender of the box, Pinnock, spent most of his time at left back, outside the box. So it didn't work due to the personnel and the tactics of the manager.

Disagree, we haven't had the best out of him because Hecky asked him to do a role he couldn't do. He could be very effective for us in a 3 man midfield.

He played loads of times in a midfield 3 with Potts & Williams he just didn’t perform. He was that bad on one occasion he got dragged off at half time in probably our biggest game of the season at home to Leeds playing in a midfield 3
