Just nipped thru to tarn with my bairns ont bus. I got off at ten bob bus stop or blockbusters as it became known. Anybody from Elsecar, Hoyland and Birdwell will know what I mean. Its the stop just before Alhambra. I was telling my kids how I used to scale the slope no problem in my day, with my mother shouting at me to get down. I tried it today and fell flat on my arse, it were more slippery than Rod Hull's roof tiles. My bairns didnt even make it. Next time your in town, and know where I mean, give it a whirl. Its harder as you get older, trust me....
Griffin Inn used to be on that site, spent many happy hours there as a kid (my best mate's dad was landlord)
We used to call it blockbuster. Got to the top of it in a pair of Air Jordans, early 90's. All abart grip.
Just darn from spotted leopard if memory serves. Also a Chinese restaurant nearby I believe that had accusations of half an Alsatian dog in fridge lol
The Griffin was near there but don't forget that edge of Sheffield Road was where the central reservation is now. At a guess I would site the Griffin somewhere in the middle of the roundabout.
I never knew it had a nickname but I used to walk up it every time I got off there even in my teens. No idea why but I couldn't resist. I'm tempted to have a try at it again but I don't want to embarrass myself
