Isn't that the whole point of a fans forum? Be a bit boring if we all wait a few months to see what happens before we start commenting!
I read it in a similar way. I think it was your use of "knee jerk central" that made you look a tad insincere.
But a lot of people are making a lot of fuss, and predicting more doom and gloom. I think it's quite funny.
Amazing how the loss of just one player causes such uproar. Anybody would think the whole team had been raffled off
I think that in-between some of the more extreme views, mostly from the usual suspects, there has been some understandable disappointment and concern. I was prepared to hold the club to its stated aims from last summer of retaining key players, but that's gone out of the window in one fell swoop. We have sold our most productive all-round player ffs, for relative peanuts as opposed to what other clubs would have got for him and, most worryingly with no hint of an equivalent or better replacement, unlike clubs like Exeter and Walsall who have only sold after the replacements have been revealed. Even more worrying are the words of the CEO which read as if the club for some reason now hasn't a pot to piss in. And yet, unless we were budgeting to win the Carabao Cup or something equally ridiculous, very little can have changed financially from the point in the summer when they were lauding that they would keep last year's squad intact. Hopefully, an instant plug and play multi-functional but principally wide midfield player who is effective at both ends of the pitch and can guarantee half a dozen assists and half a dozen goals will sign tomorrow for a lower fee than that paid by Preston (less Blackpool's cut) and on wages no higher than Potts. Otherwise this sale makes no sense at all.
I focused on the knee jerk bit when I replied. But football is all about intense highs and lows and not really about reason surely?
It's as if people are worrying that we're going to sell all our best players in one window. I don't know where they've got that idea from. No club would ever do that.
It's about lots of things. Reason is definitely one of them or else we'd all be flapping like vests on a washing line.
Great post, I’ll also add that people’s reactions are also informed on the way we have been here before in January and we’re only 4 days in. We have sold a player for what looks like a less than 2 million who may not be Neil Redfern but was an automatic starter at this level. Which means no player is safe from bang average bids being accepted for.
If it's just one player then it will pass by and we will all have moved on in a week or two. The fear is that it's a sign of things to come.
